This is not realy the classic Fallout, but its cinda fun anyway.

I must start out like this. I never actually got to play the excelent (i've heard) games of Fallout, non of them. I've tried them out, for a couple of hour's in total (Fallout 1 & 2 and Tactics that doesnt realy have the same feeling as the other two). But, somehow I realy got mesmerised by the setting of the Fallout series. Technicaly I loved Fallout tactics the most, but the other two seemed to have a more tense, solid feeling and story.

Secondly I must say that I've been collecting PS2 games that uses the Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance game engine. Its a fansy Diablo cloneish gametype, not so mush a RPG, but more a Hack N' Slash game. And it can be rather fun if time is short and sparse. So im gonna compare this game somewhat with the other two series of this gameengine I've played ... in other words BG:DA and Champions of Norrath.

Anyhow. FBOS very mush like BG:DA 1 or 2 and the Champions of Norrath game, but it's a more adult oriented game with more "harsh" language and content. I like it. It suites the setting and is a part of the Fallout "humor". The game is rather linear (as the other games in this type), but tend to be a bit more confusing of where you "should" go next. In more then one occasion i felt "where to now, left or right" ... and in a game where Experience and levels is earned by killing as many foes as possible, this whas rather frustrating from time to time. But it worked out well anyhow.

The Fallout feeling is here somewhere, but the game doesnt give much "re-playability" even though you on the way will unlock around three extra characters, mainly because the first chapters arnt that appealing, and secondly because the game doesnt seem to have any "hidden" chapters. You get the option to import an higher level character in a new game (like BG:DA and so on) but you dont get to keep any items or gears. And that makes it a bit ... well ... dull, cause i learned the first time that some weapons are pointless, cause when you finaly can use one cool weapon (like Dual Desert eagles) then there are already some other mush better and usefull weapon around. And thats ... boring.

The game have alot of hours ahead, and do amuse some all the way. But the control are a bit dull, and have not alot of options in combat. its all about pressing the button, and buying ammo for just that weapon.

The plus and the best thing with this game, like BG:DA and Champions of Norrath is that you can play Two player. This makes the dull gamecontroll somewhat forgettable, cause you play it with a friend (hopefully). It supports netplay, but i havnt had the chanse of testing it out yeat. But anyhow, to play the game with someone is around 100% more fun than playing alone.

Its not a bad game, but not a good either. Its OK. But in two player mode, the game reaches above avarage an becomes enjoyable.

If you like this type of game (like Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance 1 & 2 or Champions of Norrath, or Diablo and all their clones) then this game will not dissapoint you so mush. The Graphics are nice, the action ... somewhat plenty, and if you like the morbid Fallout Humor and drama, then its a given game for you.

I liked it, but it could have been alot better. Mush better. The potential for this franshise is stagering. And its sad that it didnt got better than this. But if you try to forgett that, and just try it out as a spinoff to Fallout, or just as a post apocalyptic generall game ... then its ... OK.

Now im of to write a review for BG:DA and CoN. Take Care.
