May not be as good as fallout 3 but this is still fallout...........read my review
Alright enough of that lets talk about the story..............
The year is 2281 four years after the lone wanderer's story. You are a Courier who they call "The Courier" tasked to deliver an important item across the Mojave Wasteland. But suddenly you are ambushed, shot in the head and thrown into a ditch left for dead, but thanks to a nice doctor your back on your feet and after going threw a quick tutorial to learn the basics your on the hunt to find the man who "killed" you. Pretty simple yet in about the second quarter of the game you realize there is a conspiracy to take hoover dam from the "Local Peacekeepers" the NCR (New California Republic) planned by the cult Caesar's Legion. Sadly it turns out to be very predictable but you can rap it up in soooooooo many ways you'll have to be impressed. Now for gameplay itself.........
New Vegas plays pretty much exactly like fallout 3,though they're are some minor differences. Vats isn't as accurate as it was in fallout 3. This was done so player would rely more no manual aiming and the new ADS feature. Shooting is still awkward but looking down the barrel of your rifle increases your accuracy by a lot and its a welcomed add in. looting and questing is still has fun as ever and more weapons and more quests make you really want to keep playing and exploring. Sadly walking around for long amounts of time can get tedious since everything is scripted in New Vegas ALTHOUGH locations are more closely together so the most you'd be walking around discovering nothing is about 15 minutes. ALTHOUGH some locations have no value what so ever. Its as if its the developers way of check points. And be warned: You will die much more than you did in fallout 3. The game is much harder even on very easy. Players who want more of a challenge can play it in hardcore mode where you must eat sleep and drink water ammo has weight and most healing items are not instant. The game recommends not to use it and for casual players this is not for you. Money is also more important now since a lot of the goodies are over 1000 caps or more while in fallout 3 the most money ever spent on something was about 700. Stores sell more types of ammo now but less of it a way of saying that you are forced to use the ammo system. Though in my opinion breaking down ammo is a waster of time transferring a microfusion into an energy cell can be quite useful. You can now gamble on the strip (when you finally get to it) and well you get the point. there is a lot of stuff to do. A faction system is also very nice too. You still gain negative and positive karma but its not as heavy handed as it was in fallout3. for instance the NCR could love you and give you bonuses while Caescar's legion could hate you and send bounty hunters on you. Chose a path you open things up but also close things off and that's what makes new vegas such a good RPG. Now for the sounds...........
Just like previous titles old school rock and roll and jazz is usually being played some where and it's quite humorous to listen to "Blue Moon" while blowing up a mutants head. Voice acting is good if not better than fallout 3's if a bit emotionless. Still there are not many voice actors to go around so be prepared to hear 3 different people who sound exactly the same. But they have Wayne Newton as Mr Las Vegas which is pretty cool. Nuff said. Time for graphics..............
Using the same engine as fallout 3 there are of course many problems that were not fixed. A.I stand around doing nothing lip sinking is poor and faded textures are an eyesore. I think the Capital Waste Land looks a lot nicer than the Mojave. Freezes glitches unresponsive followers plag this game though fortunately it hasn't crashed which fallout 3 did a lot (at least not yet)
Despite its problems Fallout New Vegas should be enjoyed by anyone who liked fallout 3 and it some people may be similar to fallout 1 and 2 (Since most people who worked on this worked on F1 and F2. This concludes my review and recommendation would be appreciated. Thank You.
