Jungle rats gather! Here is the ultimate mercenary game. Sneaking and attacking enemy posts. Doing jungle missions.
The story is a bit of a resistance fighter annex mercenary with a nice twist at the ending of the game. Especially I like the exploration the freedom of movement in any direction and the variety of vehicles. A special option is that you can swim and even dive under water, for stealthy approaches. You can even use a delta wing glider to fly. Exploring and finding hidden diamond is really exciting because sometimes it is very hard to find out how to get to the diamonds in the field. This makes it more exciting to play. It is like a little puzzle to get to the diamonds. You have to be creative, I like that! Using vehicles to climb on or make a detour to reach it.
Building up your reputation and taking care of your illness in the jungle makes it more fun to play and increases the change of unexpected thing to happen. The computer opponents are clever after sneaking up to them and taking down one from long distance with a sniper gun the rest of the guys are hiding. If they spot you them will come after you with vehicles and really move around. This will be challenging. You have to load out yourself carefully otherwise it will be much more difficult to complete a mission. If you take the right angle of approach this will differ in the complexity of finishing the mission.
An other nice thing is that you have to take care of your buddies and they will take care of you. With another nice twist somewhere in the game. Brilliant.
Also in the villages you can draw your weapon to the mercenaries there but if you provoke them too much they will start firing upon you. This will be is very challenging. Once I climbed up a church tower in a village with as much ammo as I could carry and started to snipe down the mercenaries. They do not climb up the tower but they will fire upon you and makes it very difficult to escape once you are out of ammo, because they will wait at the exit of the tower with multiple numbers and will take you down. So this is very much fun to do!!!
There are minor downsides to the game. Sometimes you vehicle is stuck in the terrain because the is a stone of a cavity. This adds extra tension to the game. But a real game breaker is when your person is trapped in a terrain cavity and you cannot escape, so you have to reload a previous checkpoint.
Luckily there are not many of these trapping cavities. But watch your step!
A missed opportunity for the developers is that the swimming and under water diving is not really used for missions of exploration. Too bad this would have been great fun. Discovering caves of special places or special access through under water diving only. Also a climbing option would extend the fun. You really could climb to good sniping position and try to take down the enemy. Then after that fly down with the delta wing and continue.
Still this is a great game and a master piece. You really get the feeling walking around in the jungle. The landscape, animals and weather conditions, sun, rain, cloudy enhances this feeling. Maybe add some lions and snakes will complete this feeling?
