I have played every notable shooter under the sun in recent years, and this is by far at the top of my list as my favourite. This game just nails it at basically every turn. The guns are the best I have played with in recent memory – they all sound and FEEL fantastic and fun to use (asides from maybe the pistols). The developers know that a shooter, at its core, is only as good as its guns, and they really kicked some goals in this department. The environment is beautiful, alive and dynamic, and the story packs a punch and is plenty engaging with some great central characters.
With a great world to explore, plenty of things to do and skills to upgrade throughout your lengthy and action-packed journey, it’s hard to not love this game and how it packs in so many great mechanics and gameplay into one seamless package that boasts extraordinary value. It really is everything you want in a free-roaming, RPG-esque, AAA shooter.
My one gripe is that Ubisoft’s completely unnecessary Uplay service was ham-fisted into this game like no-one’s business, so if you’re without an internet connection make sure you look up how to switch Uplay into offline mode so it doesn’t endlessly annoy you (no problems if you have a steady connection though).
Lastly, I advise Normal mode, even for the relatively experienced, as you die just a little too quickly in Hard mode and you can’t play like Rambo that easily (and you’ll definitely want to go guns blazing!).
