As a rookie Deputy to a Sheriff, you are plunged into Hope County, Montana & its picturesque settings, that hide the cult of Father hell bent onto severe religious preaching & liberal use of guns & violence.
Set in 3 distinct zones ruled by different antagonist you need to complete a certain number of main & side quests to recapture the area back. Attacking the Cult property at their safe houses, outposts, rescuing locals, setting up the resistance & disabling their propaganda take the front seat as you dish out spectacular violence from land, river & air with complete freedom to approach a battle as per your choice of stealth or Chuck Norris style.
With fishing, animal hunting for hides, upgrading gears, vehicles to gaining perks, by mid game you become too powerful to give a shit about any quarry or enemy & can easily pound out them all. That kills the fun in the game as there is no challenge much ahead. Even Boss fights are pretty mediocre. Way too much preaching & flashbacks & drug addled religious talk bores the crap out of the game. The saving grace is having a beautiful mountain & forest landscaped county to explore with terrain playing a large part in setting up fights. Apart from yourself getting too powerful, you also have the option of having side kicks throughout the game b your side to deliver an extra punch. Liberating outposts is fun but gets boring again soon, as the enemy type lacks variety & you keep encountering the same zealots over & over again.
