One of the best FPS experiences available!

User Rating: 9.5 | Far Cry PC
I finally got around to playing this classic, which turned out to be one of the most fun FPS experiences for me!

Clocked the game at around 15 hours, which was impressively long for a fast-paced action shooter. You would feel as if the story is coming to a close many times, only to find out there's another element (or ten) left to go. The gameplay is varied enough that the long campaign is not detrimental. As you progress, the enemies will become more and more powerful, but you will discover new weapons as well to help deal with them.

The game is a sandbox game, which means each 'level' is actually a huge map, and you can get to your objective many different ways. It allows for head up assaults, but when you're playing on the tougher difficulties you will have to rely on stealthy and strategic maneuvering so as to engage a manageable amount of enemies at once and preserve health.

There is a checkpoint save system, which gives you a sense of urgency and makes death meaningful.

Throughout the game, you will be able to use several vehicles. There is a jeep with a machinegun, an assault boat, and at several points you have the option to hang glide off of cliffs to get to strategic locations.

This game is very reminiscent of Crysis, Crytek's spiritual successor to Far Cry. They are both sandbox, they both take place on a tropical island, and even the jeeps are almost identical. If you enjoyed Crysis I would definitely pick up this game. I found Far Cry to be much more fun than Crysis actually, and even though Far Cry 2 has had it's fair share of criticisms, don't let that hold you back from picking up the original.
