One of the best FPS games on the XBox

User Rating: 9.7 | Far Cry Instincts XBOX
I hadn't really been following the progress of Far Cry Instincts. When the review popped up on Gamespot, I had relized that this game completely slipped under the radar, and was happy to pick it up the following day. Gamespot made the game sound very ambitious, and gave it a lot of hype to live up to. I think that it's fair enough to say that this game is far beyond what I could have ever hoped for, or imagined.
Gamespot gave this one a whopping 10 on graphics, and there's a reason for it. The lighting, and environments are truly amazing. The same can be said for the breathtaking particle effects. The only thing that really holds this one back, are bland textures and mediocore character models. Couple that with the fact that the presentation just doesn't have the soul of the original PC Far Cry, and you can safely say that 10 is going a bit too far. However, it's the subtle things, like the way your eyes adjust to the light, that really make this game shine. Truth be told, as far as Xbox games go, this one does manage to push the hardware, and distinguish itself among the other visually stunning games that the console has to offer.
The audio is amazing. Gunfire is very loud, and powerful, and the ringing that's caused by a nearby explosion will leave you reeling. the voice acting is convincing, and the more subtle effects, such as the splash that the water makes, as something hits it, are believable enough to pull you in.
The gameplay is fast paced and fun. The controls are very console friendly. Guns feel great, and the recoil that's caused by firing feels very natural. The feral abilities that you unlock as the game moves on are well implemented. The melee attacks are great, and the feral speed ability really gives you a feeling of power (mostly due to the great sense of speed that's presented). Vehicles handle pretty good, but are a bit touchy. They're only used as a form of transportation, so it isn't a big deal. Dual-wielding also works well. Overall, this game plays amazing.
The single-player portion of the game will last around 10 hours, and is deffinately worth a few plays through. The open-endedness of the game ensures solid replay value. The multipleyer has all the standard modes, and with a cool mode, called predator. In predator, one player get all the feral powers, and is pitted against all the other players, who don't have these abilities. It's a great, and unique experience. Overall, if you're a FPS fan, who owns an Xbox, then this game is deffinately one to check out.
