Totally Awesome

Fate Extra is one of the last psp games to be released here in the US. After just playing through the first quarter of it, I am very impressed. Fate Extra has had a lot of time put in to make it worth playing.
The game starts out with the prologue you being a high school student. During the first few days, life seems normal, except for some glitches that occur around you in your environment. It isn't long before you enter on the first floor a room where you get a fighting "doll" that you use in combat. You use it for a few minutes, but then in the end you die. The game then goes on to you and then you are thrust into the whole holy grail tournament, as you try to remember who you are and compete in this virtual reality. You pick a servant and are a master. Your servant fights for you and defends you; in other words, if your servants dies you die. You get to pick from three different servants with three different classes. Caster, a fox girl, Saber, a fighting woman, and archer, a warrior. Furthermore, which servant you pick determines the bosses you fight in the game, so it is worth playing this game more than once with different servants.
Next, the graphics in the game are amazing. A lot of effort has been put to make everything run smoothly. The game also features a great storyline, and the interactions between you and your servant are interesting. When you are running around in the arena, your servant makes a lot of comments with what you are doing. There's also a good amount of voice acting which has been put in the game as well.
Also, the combat system is quite excellent. It's no surprise because of some of the staff with Fate Extra coming from the Persona series. The battle system works like a rock paper scissors system; attack beats break, break beats guard, and guard beats attack. You have 6 actions to pick before your servant comes back to you and your next turn begins. In addition to this masters can use spells or items to assist their servant. The only catch is you can use only 1 spell or 1 item once per turn. Your servant also learns skills which are exceptions to the fighting system. Plus, when you are running around fighting enemies, as you fight the same enemies again from again, eventually you will start to see some of the actions your enemies pick.
Going along with this, you try to gather as much information as possible about your opponents in each round. If you gather enough, you will see some of their actions and also be able to know when they use their noble phantasm (a powerful attack every servant has access to you, although you won't get yours for a while). The battles are one on one, which is nice and fits with the game perfectly.
Overall, Fate Extra is worthwhile. It's true that the days of the PSP are coming to an end, but Fate Extra is one of the last PSP games to come out and play as you bid farewell.
