My review of F.3.A.R.
I was lucky enough to buy it cheap, and since the reviews were fairly good, I gave it a chance. And to be honest, I'm very impressed.
Unfortunately, the campaign is the weakest point of the game. The lack of scares, the short playtime, and the not-so varied enviroments can't keep the attention all the time. BUT, the game features some of the best artifical intelligence I've seen since the second installment. The commandos get cover as soon as they see you, retreat if neccesary, and even ambush you. The game also features different type of A.I for every creature, like the zombies will continue to rush you until you're dead. I was also impressed by the game mechanics. Even the visuals can be rusty sometimes, the bullets and exploding bodies in slo-mo are just amazing. And the shooting mechanics are solid, though I expected a little more weapon. The difficulty for the 6-7-ish hour campaing is just right, with multiple difficulties. You can also play through the campaign with Fettel, who can cast deadly spells, and take over bodies. The story and the dialogues were just alright. I found the integrated challenge system great, especially if you're an achievement hunter. The cover system works surprisingly good too, though we've seen it before.
On the other hand, multiplayer-wise the game is a blast. Every game mode requires a great amount of cooperation, and the gametypes are sorta unique. You can also play through the campaign with your friend, which can add to the value. Unfortunately, the player base is very low, the chance you find an enjoyable match is rare.
Overall, It's a really solid game. Pass it if you like great campaigns with good story, but if you're a fan of the series, or a multiplayer-type, you should definetly check it out.
