Looks good but after a few hours, you'll be ready to throw this game back into the sea of Xbox Live Arcade.

THE BAD

-Very repetitive

OVERVIEW

Feeding Frenzy is a simple 2D puzzle game where being at the top of the food chain is your biggest concern. There are two types of game modes in Feeding Frenzy which are normal and time attack. The objective of the game is to complete all 40 levels by eating enough fish to progress to the next level. Each level consists of a variety of different kinds of fish and hazards like jelly fish, oysters, barracudas and sharks. At the beginning of each level, your fish starts at the second-to-the-bottom on the food chain. You can only eat fish that are smaller than you but keep in mind that bigger fish can eat you. The more your fish eats the bigger he/she gets until they move up on the food chain which enables them to eat bigger fish.

GAMEPLAY

Swimming, eating, swimming, eating, etc… This is how the entire game is played. You have to eat smaller fish and avoid getting eaten by bigger fish. Every level has the same objective. As you can see this game can get really repetitive just like this review, which I apologize for. There are a few different fish you get to play as like Andy (angelfish), Leon (lionfish), Edie (anglerfish), J.D. (John Dory fish), and Orville (orca). Each fish plays a little differently then the others so you'll have to adjust your technique throughout the entire game. The controls for the game are simple, yet effective. The left stick moves your fish around, the "A" button lets your fish dash for a short distance, and the "X" button uses a special ability. You'll quickly realize that maneuvering your fish is done with ease in Feeding Frenzy. So, Feeding Frenzy is a pretty simple game of swim and eat with some special moves and score bonus multipliers to get called "Feeding Frenzy". When a Feeding Frenzy is acquired (eating a bunch of fish is quick succession), your basic score is increased and doubled for a "Double Frenzy". So, there are some added excitements to the game but not enough raise the quality above mediocre.

GRAPHICS & SOUND

The graphics in Feeding Frenzy are crystal clear. The level design may look simple but at least the quality is top notch.

There isn't too much to note about the music or sound except for the "munching" sound effects. Since everything is eaten whole, its sounds funny when your fish takes one chomp (which sounds like biting an apple) to swallow its prey.

CONCLUSION

Feeding Frenzy is a simple game that is fun for a little while but gets boring quickly. This game's quality is only mediocre. Try playing the demo if you're interested but I wouldn't recommend a purchase since there is hardly any replay value. Feeding Frenzy may look good but you'll probably end up throwing this one back in the sea of Xbox Live Arcade.
