The FIFA series have been long and great. I've played a lot of the latest editions. FIFA 04 was pretty good, but kind of a let down. FIFA 05 was fun. FIFA 06 however, is extremely fun. The gameplay is great. The basic game is simple. Compared to the latest games, I like the simple free kick system on this the best. Also the controls are good. When starting this game, I recommend starting of with Kick-Off to get used to this game. The thing I find with soccer games is that they're not always a walk in the park. Once you think you're good enough to play in actual modes, there's quite a few to choose from. Manager Mode is the main one. This is the best managing mode up to date in all sport games. You''ve got to worry about quite a bit of stuff, and things won't always go right. Yet, that's a good thing. Everybody likes a good challenge or two at some point. You select a team (you can't start with a 5 star team, that'll be too easy) and manage them for 15 years. The thing I like is that you can actually leave the team and manage another at the end of each season. Though you might also be kicked out if you've been doing a terrible job. This mode can really keep you busy. Very realistic gameplay and managing.
The graphics are really good. The players look pretty close to their real counterparts. The fields look realistic. Everything just looks awsome. Well, except for the fans, but that would be getting a little picky there. Also, during play, you can't see the referee. Though the great graphics of this game covers that up. Who really cares about the referee anyway.
This game has a pretty long soundtrack, and the songs are pretty good. They also put in some clips of spectacular goals. The commentary is alright. The fan chants are really nice.
There is quite a bit in the game to keep you busy. Manager Mode lasts 15 seasons, and seasons take quite a while to do, and they don't get boring. There are over 100 challenges to complete, quite a bit of stuff to unlock, like classic teams and such. This just doesn't seem to get boring.
So overall, I say this is an amazing soccer/football game. Gameplay is excellent and realistic, graphics are great, sounds are good, and this game doesn't get boring quickly. So if you're a soccer/football fan, I definetly recommend this game.
