I wasn't going to buy this game either, but I got suckered by the 50% off sale they had on xbox one online store. That deal might sound great, but then when you figure out that you are paying for something that will make you angry, you realize it is a big waste of money.
This game is plagued by inconsistencies. For example, if you hold the passing button for the same duration two different times, you will get two different passes. Some times they will not make it to your player, and some times it will. The direction is terrible. You will have an open player, and even though you are holding in that players direction, the ball will be passed to another player.
You have very little control over goalie or defense. Your goalie comes out on his own to parry balls coming in from corner kicks or that have been chipped in to a striker. It's also extremely random what a goalie will save and what they won't save. Your center backs AI also acts randomly, at times they come out in front of the attacker to intercept a ball and at times, they just open up almost as if they were telling the player, here you go, we opened a pathway for you please score on us. Which wouldn't be so bad if you could switch to a defensive player in time, except even switching players has become extremely random both with the button and the right stick.
The attackers are extremely slow, even the slowest defenders can catch the fastest attacker, easily, unless the game has randomly decided that this attacker is faster than everyone else this one game. Again, it's just all about randomness in this game with how your players will react. It's hard to plan any attack in advance, because even if you end up passing it to the correct player, as soon as that player gets the ball he might end up turning in a certain direction that you didn't press. And then when you joust, even though you are protecting the ball with your players body, it's once again random if a defender will take the ball magically from behind or if your player will just disengage from the ball leaving it for the defender or if the defender will bounce of your player. Random, random and random.
The game has one noticeable bug from last year and that is if you have aided switching of players set to Air Balls, the game will randomly switch players for you even if the ball is grounded. Besides that, it will become painfully obvious to you that there is a high amount of scripting in this years version. At times it will feel like there are force fields that prevent your player from going in a certain direction or that your player has a force field of invincibility around him.
When you create your first team in FUT, you are given players that range from 50-75 in skill level. Yet, you will find your self beating teams in the 80+ skill range in your first few games effortlessly. Then as you get little better players, your team starts playing like shit. So you start thinking you just need to buy better players. I believe the reason FIFA has scripted it this way is to get people suckered in so you think you have skill and fun and spend extra money on their gold packs and special packs and get hooked on all those shiny cards or whatever. Since, that is probably the most fun part of this game, just opening those packs and seeing if you get lucky and get a high ranking player. Except you won't. Unless you spend $ to open a hundred packs. This game is a scam where you think you have some kind of control but it's all carefully designed to get as much $ as possible from kids with rich parents. Sorry if I sound too harsh in my judgement, but I've been playing Fifa since the very first one on Sega Genesis and these past few FIFAs (specifically last three years) have felt like a slap in the face of any true competitive fan of the series. I've lost trust in EA and Fifa, this is truly the last one I will have bought.
