best soccer game to come out in a long time

User Rating: 8.6 | FIFA Football 2005 GC
FIFA 2005 is an awesome. Last season we saw plenty of improvements and over the summer Euro 2004 improved further the FIFA gameplay. But FIFA 2005 feels different as soon as you get your hands on it. The game's stadia all look fantastic. Take a goal kick and you see a wonderful stadium with excellent lighting. Rain adds to the visual splendour with splashes and so on (but as I explained on the boards you sometimes have to buy these from the FIFA shop). The players also look great, David Beckham actually looks like David Beckham, and so on. The commentary is first class from John Motson and Ally McCoist. Compared to Pro Evo 4 it's a masterclass. The chants from the crowd are team specific and are spot on. The soundtrack is also pretty good covering a range of styles so you'll be able to find something you like. On to the game itself. FIFA is much improved over its prequels. The controls are tighter and better. The passing is slick and smooth. The shooting is cool. The free-kicks rock. Basically everything FIFA 2004 had has been updated and improved. First touch control is also great (flick the right analog stick and the player will control it in that direction). EA has included a load of modes to enjoy. Career mode has been changed so you start at the bottom and move up. Tournament mode includes League cups and league seasons (but no Champions League) Online mode is now better however, so you can play against anyone in the world. But the new create-a-player/tournament modes stick out. Create that new star (or yourself) and set attributes and appearance. Create the tournament and play with any team against any team. See how well Boston United would face off against Arsenal? Now you can do it in this excellent new set of modes. Quite simply this will last. Online mode and multiplayer will keep you playing. Now stop reading and buy, buy, BUY!!
