Great soccer game, however, it only contains international play.
This game doesn't have many game modes, though the ones it has are pretty good. You can select one of the 32 teams in the WC and begin in Germany right away. Or you can select one of many other teams and go through the whole qualification process and get them into the WC. There also is a mode called Global Challenge. Here there are many different situations from past World Cups and qualifications that were key points in history. Now you have a chance of re-writing history using todays players. For example, you can go to that shootout between Sweden and Romania (which if you've been following football/soccer history, Sweden won cause of one of the greatest goalies of all time made a famous save for them), or go to the game between Poland and Italy when Italy was down 2-0 and help them make a comeback (Poland won that game 2-1 in the end, yes I know football history quite well). There are many different challenges. Though that's about the main game modes (ofcourse there's a Play Now mode) in this game.
Just playing a regular match is fun. There are no real major flaws, and if you like FIFA 06, you'll like this game since the gameplay is pretty much the same. Though I find the gameplay in this game to be a touch more realistic than FIFA 06, just a touch (unless you use cheats, I'll talk about that later). The graphics are really good. Player models look good, the stadiums are great, and they clearly spent some time on the graphics in Germany in the WC. So the overall gameplay and graphics are great in this game. The squads are also pretty updated (not 100%, but close enough).
The sounds are good. The soundtrack is not bad, the commentary is pretty good (I've yet to see a game with perfect commentary). The sound effects are good. The crowd sounds great. I also like all the effects in the final game of the WC.
There are also a bit of extra stuff. On each loading screen before each match, they state a fact about one of the two countries, and I find some of the facts to be quite interesting (like for example, Canada has the largest male population from the ages of 5-9). There are also some unlockables in the game. You can unlock many of the soccer legends of the past (like Eric Cantona, or Zbigniew Boniek, or Hugo Sanchez, or Franz Beckanbauer). You can also unlock a ton of different game soccer balls, like the WC Final Golden Ball. There are also some other stuff, like invisible walls on the sidelines so it's kinda like indoor soccer with the boards, or no interrogations, which means there are no rules or penalties, or the perfect difficulty, which is makes the game very hard. There are also a few more. To unlock such stuff, you need to collect points. You get points from doing good in matches, or completing challenges (when you first play this game, you'll probably finish a few challenges, like scoring a goal or two or getting a clean sheet). There are a ton of different challenges. I find these unlockables to be quite neat, though there aren't a ton of them or anything.
This is a very fun game, though there isn't a whole lot in it, so after a while, it can get boring. Though if you like playing international football, get this game. Though I recommend renting this game, and if you really really like it, then buy it. This is a fun game, though I don't think it will last anybody forever.
