Fight Night Round 3 – A Knockout on PSP Great game , Great Value!
On Feb 20, Playstation and EA games released Fight Night Round 3 for the PSP. The long awaited fighting game had most fans buying it on the day of its release. Although fighting game are not the most popular games for any system this game has some features even regular gamers can enjoy.
The goal of the game is as simple as knock out for Nintendo; Beat your opponent’s head in before he teaches you what pain feels like. Of course, now you can train your character, hire a coach, cut man and your fighting moves are a lot more complex.
Some of the nice features of this game are things like the big sound track. You can choose from a wide variety of songs to listen to while you beat your opponent into the floor. The game also features a very kool character editor that allows you to edit the face of your fighter. So in other words you could make your character look like yourself or you could make your character look like someone you hate and let the AI beat the living crap out of you.
The game, although great fun, seams to be missing a couple key things though. First off the story… or should I say lack thereof. There is a career mode but no cut scenes or goals or anything, you’re simply a boxer wanting to make it to the top. Now the only other major failure of this game is it’s not an easy game to play. The way the controls are setup you end up having to spend the first 30 min of game play trying to simply understand how to fight. After you have mastered the controls you find yourself playing for a couple of hours when you finally find yourself doing the same thing over and over again. Maybe it’s the brain damage your character is getting from the fights but the repetitiveness of this game is brain numbing. Last features of the game that most player of the 2 previous games well notice is your fighters training. In the previous version you had to mash buttons and get carpal tunnel / Nintendo thumb from all the training sessions, now all you do is press the training and voila you’re all done.
As far as a technical aspect the game is great. Loading times are very fast and you rarely have to wait for anything EXCEPT when the round end, for some reason unknown to be it takes more time to load the statistics from the fight then to load the actual fight it self. What’s the deal with that?!? Graphics are very good and the little cut scenes you do have are really sharp, especially the sexy ringside girls before each match. The game is really a good game for the PSP even considering the goofy controls.
The overall look at Fight Night Round 3 is pretty good. If you into mind numbing brain spattering fun this game is just what the doctor ordered. Fans of the series well love it. Even with all its little flaws Fight Night Round 3 is definitely one of the better fighting games for the PSP.
