I honestly only got this bundle to finally own Chrono Trigger (which is what my review mostly covers) but...
User Rating: 9.5 | Final Fantasy Chronicles PS
...I did play through FFIV much much later on on a different console. So to be fair, I'm only going to be covering the PSX version of Chrono Trigger in this review. I first rented Chrono Trigger back when the SNES was my main console and I would say that it was my first RPG play through (even though technically Breath of Fire was my first but I played like five minutes of it and put it down). It really left a good impression on me and is why I am a fan of RPGs to this day. The music, the story, the exploration...I just had to experience it again. Little did I know how scarce it was in stores by this time and the notion of having to start all over again every time I rented it, discouraged me from doing it again. So several years passed by (and I eventually moved on to the FF series) when all of a sudden this was released!!! Not only could this game give me everything that made me fall in love with the original version but it also gave me animated sequences, a theater mode, and a music playback section!!!! Can you tell I'm a huge fan of this game yet?
My breakdown:
What's Good:
- Great Story
- Great Character Development
- Great Music
- Excellent graphics for its time
- A less confusing story than its successor
- Plenty of extras for fans of the original
- Great Animated Sequences
- Multiple paths to take in the game
- High Replay Value
What's Not-So-Good:
- I was never a fan of the "silent protagonist" thing
What's Bad: Nothing imo
In all, this game in any format is one of the greatest games ever made and sets many standards.
