Although I agree it was easy, I have a different view on Mystic Quest.

User Rating: 8.1 | Final Fantasy USA: Mystic Quest SNES
Gameplay- Final Fantasy Mystic Quest had a very simple battle system. It would be a very good game to introduce a child to RPGs (arguably better than Pokemon in my opinion) particularly due to there being no random encounters. The overworld map lets you follow distinct paths between areas unlike other Final Fantasy game which are free-roaming. To compare Mystic Quest to Final Fantasy 4, for example, would be like comparing Monopoly to Candy Land. Mystic Quest also has simple dialogue and is a generally simple game in almost every respect even down to enemy design. Even your equipment, never has to be equipped, it is done so automatically. Unfortunately, although Mystic Quest does have solid gameplay, it is still solid unchallenging and basic gameplay. Story- This is one of Mystic Quest's more surprising elements. Although it has simple dialogue, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest startled me by actually having an interesting story with decent character development and even a couple of twists. This game does not have the depth of Breath of Fire 2 or Final Fantasy 4 as far as storyline is concerned, but it has a good foundation that can carry progression thoroughly without being redundant. Mystic Quest although technically called a Final Fantasy game really has little to do with the Final Fantasy series. The only resemblance it poses is a Light vs Dark theme and the presence of crystals. Sound/Graphics- For the soundtrack, all I can say is "wow". There is not a single track in Mystic Quest that could not be considered a 16 bit masterpeice. Mystic Quest has sound effects that are always one hundred percent appropriate to their actions and there are alot of them (I especially love any of the sounds that can be heard from the final boss's actions). The visuals are vibrant and the in game art is cartoony at times but so is Dragon Warrior, and people still took it seriously. Mystic Quest also makes use of background layering (the final room of the game is a blatant example of this). Where I took one point off for graphics, the sound more than makes up for it giving Mystic Quest a perfect rating. Playtime/Replayability-9/10 I have beaten Mystic Quest over 10 times so that pretty much explains the replayability issue (although there are no replayablity features). Playtime really depends on killing every enemy, clearing out every between stage battle area (10 battle in each) and making sure you have every magic spell and item and equipment. It would not be possible for me (someone who knows Mystic Quest very well) to beat it in under 3 hours. So for a first time player, it is not that Mystic Quest will get you stuck because of difficulty issues, there is just alot of game there. Final Recommendation-8/10 I could not give a better recommendation to a child playing hers or his first RPG. If you are an adult, before you play Mystic Quest, expect a simple game with very good sound and visuals. -Geusprime
