A lot of American gamers got their first taste of RPG with this simplistic yet enjoyable classic.

I remember playing this game at my friends house way back in 93, and was instantly addicted. The menus and character movement and combat were all easy to pick up and learn quickly, so kudos for a smooth interface. The games graphics were not outstanding, but they did the job decently, especially with the monsters who looked pretty cool. The sounds were pretty awful, aside from the boss music and a few tunes here and there that I liked. Gameplay, you go through menus and select what attacks to use, very straightforward yet fun. The monsters have a cool feature in this game, they have 2-4 wounded animations, so if you wack that minotaur with an axe, you can see his horns missing, and numerous other funny and interesting looking poses for every enemy in the game, one of my favorite features that was lacking in other rpgs. The progression in this game is relatively even, but magic is so unbalanced and overpowered. A spell is a 1 shot kill for most of the game aside from bosses. You get a hefty amount of casts and get them all back from resting at an inn. My complaint is that the enemies are not challenging enough and the game mechanics not complicated enough to warrant much strategy or variety. Basically you attack with a weapon or cast a spell, ocasionally healing. It gets old and repetitive very quickly. At the time it came out though, it was pretty good and it's responsible for my love of RPGs today.
