An RPG to start them off.
GAMEPLAY ~
+Positives+
It was easy to just pick up this title and play, you didn't need to know nothing about RPGs, because it wasn't an average RPG. This game played alot like the Lufia titles released for the same system a year or so later. There are no random battles, instead the enemies block your path and you gotta defeat them to proceed. The story line was nothing all to great, something about the Doom King controlling the Crystals in the focus tower... no idea... The battle system was so easy to understand it was ridiculous! You attack, or you use magic from the books you find through you journey. You get addition character (one, its a 2 person effort saving the world) and they change every so often. Tristam was the man, thanks for the Dragon Claw!
-Negatives-
This game is too easy! As I said, a 5 year old could understand it and beat it in no less than 3 days! The characters were kinda bland and boring half the time, the humor was not funny in the least. They tried alot to be funny by giving the Hero some stoopid shoulder shrugging action! This was lame, I am glad that most other RPG left this comedy behind... but maybe FF8 could have used some more humor, GO SQUAL! SHRUG THOSE SHOULDERS! GIVE ME SOME EMOTION!
GRAPHICS ~
+Positives+
For the SNES, the graphics were par-none for its time! Everything was lush! The over world map. The enemies even appeared to be injured whilst doing battle! This was gold! All the other FF enemies just died, these ones got injured first!
-Negatives-
The monsters look very goofy and innocent (Lufia style) so mortally wounding them, an than killing them made youngsters feel bad. The battles are shot from behind the Heroes backs, this gets annoying. The characters move their arms and legs back and forth eternally! Pointless! STAND STILL! The weapon attacks are kinda lame, but the magic looked nice.
SOUND ~
+Positives+
A great soundtrack! This game had the best basic battle music I’ve ever heard in a game (its on par with Lufia actually!) the game spares no expense on its sound track, its all rock when its a battle and adventurous on the map! I can personally say that the boss music is a tune I will never forget!
-Negatives-
The only downside to this category is the SFX. They are very tried. The swords make an annoying "swing" sound and the arrows make a "shuc-shuc-shuc" sound when they penetrate like 100 times to one enemy! The magic, well it wasn't good sounding either (especially the "white" spell... I heard that FX enough to last me forever!) Yet normally, the background music totally compensated for the bad FX's.
REPLAYABILITY ~
Midlevel I would suppose. There was a bit to collect and discover. If you beat the "battle stops" on the map you get either a cool item or some Exp. And you can't forget about the Zodiac tablets. Very fun, but doesn’t last long.
OVERALL ~
One of the most underrated RPGs for the early SNES career! I wish they would release this title for the GBA so that countless children could learn to play all these other RPGS being made alot better!
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
