The apocalypse is at hand on the war-torn earth, but can it be ended?
One-thousand years passed, magic has been forgotten and the world depends on machinery and technology. The Empire, lead by the Emperor Gestahl, finds the secret entrance to an Esper world, capturing them and draining them of their power, resulting in new technology known as Magitek and strengthening the soldiers with it. With that, the Empire begins to move onward, trying to conquer the rest of the world. At their side, a young girl, Terra Branford, who is the only human with magical powers in the world has been mesmerized by an asset of the Empire, Kefka Palazzo, to help in their conquest with her powers. It is only the start of many, many things to come, including the gathering of a strong fellowship, love, and a battle against many a great evil.
Good: Wonderful storyline with surprising twists * Comfortable and likeable battle system * Amazing graphics * Huge and open world to explore * Mesmerizing and inspiring soundtrack * Lengthy gameplay to keep one busy for awhile * An almost-unlimited variety of things to do
Bad: Some sections of constant grinding
Graphics: One of the highest points of the game. This game has many 3D elements which have been pulled off exceptionally well, even the 2D parts are just amazing. Character design is very detailed and well-done, as is environmental. A beautiful game to look at, definitely not outdated at all.
Sound/Music: Sounds are that which you would expect to be hearing from a Final Fantasy game, or an RPG in general, but something about them are a little more charming in this one. As for the music, it's some of the best music I've heard in any game, period. It's the kind of music that you'll listen to outside the game, or may whistle or hum to yourself. No matter how much it plays, it doesn't get irritating.
Difficulty: It isn't too hard, nor is it too easy. The maze-like layouts of caves and dungeons can be a little confusing, as some boss fights can be difficult, but it wouldn't be much of an RPG without such.
Gameplay: Although similar to Final Fantasy IV and V, it feels different at the same time. The feel of the game is better, easier to adapt to, and includes much more to it, giving it an advanced feel. The storyline is much more involving than any before and major fights get the blood pumping. Learning magic is a little different, but I won't spoil it ahead of time. I will say that it's the most effective and actually fun way of doing so. There are 14 playable characters in Final Fantasy VI, the most in any to date, and each will come in to play, it's not an option. Each character has his or her own skill, seperating them from all the others. There is also a huge variety of magic, armor and weapons to be used. This is one that will keep players busy for hours, days, weeks.
Control: Extremely simple, it's the same as any RPG: move and use the action button.
Overall: It is argued this is the superior game in the series, even over Final Fantasy VII, and I'm one of those who say it is better. In fact, I have never played an RPG as captivating as Final Fantasy VI, and I URGE you to play this if you have not, so for your own good, please, play it. I don't care how, but do not miss out on this classic, this masterpiece, this.. Perfect game.
