Gameplay to flatten all games that ever have been, are being and will be made.
First up; who cares about graphics? if graphics are your reason to play a game then do not read this review or indeed any other review i have written; graphics are a bonus and nothing more. Besides, graphics they have were indeed good for the time of release and peronally i find it pleasing to the eye anyways; i like the simplicity; the humbleness of the old games that you don't see any more.
Anyways, who could ever say no to that adorable Kefka's evil laugh?
The storyline is a killer through and through. This ever so typical power of magic is not ran by everyone except a rare few; those who wish to use magic must use Magi-Tech armour or be imbued falsley with it if they are not one of the odd people adept a using it. Summons (better named Espers) don't even enter this game till later, forcing you to make use of your magic and skills alike, but when you do get hold of some they work like a charm. using an attacked Esper to use magic, and eventually, after much training with them attached, the character may actually learn the spell himself.
Each character has their own unique talent. Terra has magic, Edgar has his various Tools, Sabin has his Blitzs...all with even their own styles of use. Use Terra's magic at the expense of her MP, Edgar can use his Tools unsparingly but they become obsolete and with the need of new ones and you must learn and master the combinations to have Sabin Blitz effectively.
There is an abundance of characters to use throughout the game keeping a 'main character' slot very vague; Terra and Locke are the only ones who could claim to be the main characters. You can afford to be favouritist with your more liked and/or better characters and throw all the training at them; other characters level up slowly behind you anyway. By the time you aer ready to go to Floating Continent, you have a huge selection of various characters with a wide selection of different talents and abilities so you can easily mould a diverse and powerful team of warriors.
The storyline is insane throughout and even goes as far to pull up and reveal history and background to reinforce itself further. You can pass by and miss things that are later brought up again and shown to you in new light. Most (ignoring such characters like Gogo) have quite definite and strong backgrounds and often even link and work with each other. As the story continues through it only gets thicker and more intense, a far more exciting and powerful plot until Floating Continent, where i think hits one of the greater twists in the history of games. Failure to complete your gamelong mission and lose everything is a brilliant tragedy. You then have the choice out of all your characters in which order to recollect and rescue and search the vast world in the hunt and search for your lost team and essential items such as your ship.
The gameplay keeps active with minigames like the split team 'march towards the boss through his grunts' games that they have dotted throughout and the three-stories section. Swapping your characters with little need to stick with definte characters later and can just choose whoever instead of any predetermined ''must-be-there'' character offers diversity and selection throughout.
There are large and full maps to explore and plenty of enemies and bsses to encounter as you conquer the plot but with all those extra wee villages, caves and secrets that must be backtracked to find littered throughout the game.
What's wrong with this game you might ask? i would say the fact that there is only one, but then that way you can say 'this is the one', the incredible game, the best. I think it is the best game ever concieved and many people think it is at least one of the best. This game is a classic, it is an immortal, it is unique, it is full and powerful. I can say nothing bad of it.
