FFVI was one of the best RPGs ever made. This port to the GBA does that version all the justice it deserves.
This review is more about the port quality then the game itself. The game itself earns a 10 outright. This game is one of the games that made RPGs a powerhouse in America and put the genre on the map.
This game is ported beautifully. The graphics are crisp and clear, the original gameplay is all there, and best off all - they even added some content! The re-translated script is a very nice addition, as it gets rid of all the old bugs in dialogue.
I only have two gripes with this game, the sound and the slowdown. The sound, although probably due to the GBA/DS LIte, sounds very funneled and weak. Final Fantasy has always been known for its grand music and sound effects, and I feel that this port doesn't do that reputation justice. Also, during battles there is a lot of slowdown that occurs. It's not enough to dock in points or interfere with gameplay - it's just annoying when I know that it didn't occur in the old SNES version.
Gripes aside, this game is damn near perfect. If you are a fan of RPGs then you must own this game. I've beaten it countless times (back on SNES) and I find myself always returning for more.
