3 Magic Gods + 2 Worlds + 1 Maniacal Madman = VI

User Rating: 9.5 | Final Fantasy VI Advance GBA
There are games that are puzzling, games that bring tears to your eyes, games that are plain-old rotten, and games that are for everyone. And then, there's Final Fantasy VI Advance. Even though this was my first ever FF game, I'd have to say it is by far the greatest of my collection. This game is composed of an intricate story line, amazing cast of characters (the largest of any FF game), dozens of abilities and spells, including the return of FF2's Ultima, and antagonist that even drives you to the brink of insanity and madness.
To begin, the storyline of Final Fantasy VI Advance (FF6A for short) revolves around a single woman by the name of Terra Branford, whom is half-human and half-esper, which are magical creatures thought to have banished themselves to another world after the ancient War of the Magi that occurred 1000 years ago. She is under mind control by the evil Gestahlian Empire (forgive me if I spelled that wrong), whose sole ambition is to replace the lost magic with MagiTek, or artificial magic. However, as with any Empire, there are stragglers. These rebels are known as "The Returners", and they see the truth behind the Empire: to use MagiTek to rule everything.
Terra, controlled, goes to invade the frigid city of Narshe with two Imperials named Wedge and Biggs to find a rumored frozen esper, which they need to bring back to Emperor Gestahl and his, somewhat insane, courtmage, Kefka Palazzo. All does not go according to plan, as later Terra finds herself fleeing Narshe, free of her mind control, being chased by the Narshe Guard, whom don't believe her "change of heart". After being rescued by Locke Cole, "treasure hunter, not a thief", they go to the machine Castle Figaro to get aid from King Edgar Roni Figaro (oddly enough, Locke is good friends with him). After choosing his side, Edgar is gifted with a not-so-friendly visit from Kefka, who sets the castle ablaze soon after. Do Terra, Locke and Edgar escape? Play the game to find out.
As with any games, there are some flaws, and FF6A is no exception. Some lag in some of the better-detailed battles, as well some personal experiences of what I call "Random Memory Erase-itis" were the only two things that kept me from giving this game a perfect 10 out of 10. Otherwise, there is no reason why you shouldn't run out to get this outstanding game right now. As far as games go, FF6A is just a hairsbreadth away from perfection, or as I say it, "truly amazing."
