Your complete guide to FF VII Advent Children, 9.6 out of 10

User Rating: 9.6 | Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children PSP
The wait is finally over and I must say that this has definitely lived up to the hype. In fact its inspired me to go out and buy FFVII again just so i can play the game through one more time. The CG animation is so amazing that at times I thought I was watching a live action movie, Square has definitely set a new standard by which all other CG movies must live up to.

The movie is dubbed but is done so to near perfection, I can't remember any point during the movie where it was blatanly obvious that it was dubbed, and to be honest you won't even notice unless your directly looking for it. The music is amazing and really brings you into the story, and the voice acting is surprisingly good. I thought it would take away from the game hearing what cloud and all the rest of the characters sounded like, but it really added to it. A+ on the voice acting for bringing the characters we know and love to life.

The story is MUCH better than I anticipated it to be, it still doesn't compare to FF VII, but it is impossible to compare a story of a 60 hour videogame epic to an hour and 45 minute movie. The battle scenes are simply put AMAZING, it seems that each and every action sequence just gets better and better, and up the ante from the previous one. These scenes easily top ones from hollywood blockbusters such as "The Matrix."

But despite all of these amazing things about this movie, it does have some flaws. A lot of the lines in the movie directly correlate to the game, so for the 3 or 4 people reading this who haven't played the game, might be a little confused during some parts of the movie. To compensate for this, on the first dvd they have a "Reminiscense of FFVII" that plays out important scenes and CG sequences from the game. Which can't even begin to give you the whole story but does a decent job for an overview.

Almost all if not every one of the extra features are in Japanese, so you'll be stuck reading those darn subtitles. There are 11 deleted scenes but almost all of them are 15 seconds or less, and wouldn't have reallly added anything to the movie had they been put in, maybe a total of 3 or 4 minutes if that. There is also a very interesting feature of how they made the movie, and what it means to each of the developers. It's pretty cool to hear how they designed the game and the movie and the similarities between the two.

It also gives you a look at FFVII games that are coming up, including crisis core, before crisis, dirge of cerberus, and a trailer for advent children.

All in all the extra features aren't spectacular but are cool to look at if you have some free time on your hands. But the amazing quality and execution of the movie more than makes up for any of the flaws that it has. You'll find yourself constantly amazed throughout the movie, whether your a FF fan or not. It definitely adds to it if you have played the game, you'll get a lot of the inside jokes and its so cool to see all of the characters that you grew to love way back in the good ol' days of 94'.
