Best game for the playstation one!
User Rating: 9.9 | Final Fantasy VII PS
Well...I finially get to write a review for this game after about a year trying to get my gamespot level to six. I know that I am writing this review in 2005 when the game came out 1997 but its okay because I started playing this game in 1999. When I say started I mean that I still play this game today just to do everything that I had not done before. This game can simiply not get old no matter how many times you beat it or play it, it will not happen. This game just has to much to do and no matter how many people tell you that it could not even compete with todays RPG's it will. And it will be a contender. In this review I am not going to break down the game for you by putting commentary under each section. No, this review will simply be what is good about the game and what needs to be improved. I would just like to first say that this game has currently sold 9.2 million copyies worldwide which is of course a stunning number considering how many types of this games are out there. The Halo 2 has sold about 6.4 million and could quite possibly be the best game of the year. I hate Halo and I am not afraid to say it people of todays society are shallow and uninterested in well thought out stories they just want to get to the action. To get to my review which wont be that long I would have to say that the thing that made FF7 "...quite possibly the best game ever made..." was Nobuo Uematsu the composer of all the music in FF7. With out music you do not have drama or emotions that make a game worth while because you feel that you are in the game. To counter a good thing with a bad thing I would have to say it would be the field graphics not the battle graphics which are amazing. Although it was fun seeing yourself walking around and you are the size of a small town Square Soft could have done a better job as we all saw in FF9 which was very good with the proportion of character to object. And I think we all know that everyone has hands and forearms and biceps and sholders not just forearms and sholders. That was I think the biggest mistake in the game but Square made up for it in enjoyment. The really stand out thing in this game were of course the battle graphics but also the amount of things to keep track of. All I have to say is WOW. You have to worry about 7-8 charcters and all of their stats and limit breaks and weapons that it sometime would blow my mind. And on top of that Square decided to make the coolest thing in the world which was materia and that in of itself was a challenge. So many things to level up, so many deadly combos, so much fun. To put the icing on the cake was the story line which was truly amazing. It was so complicated at time that you didn't even know what was going on and you were the one reading all of it. I have beaten this game at least five times and I still did not know what was going on at the end of disk one. Another bad thing abou the game that could be considered not bad was the fact that Cloud the main character could not be switched in and out of the party. He was the best charcter but...I would have liked to seen someone else step in and take charge. Another thing related to charcters was that you could only have three in a party but in FF9 you could have four. It made me mad but hey its my opinion not yours. Also the fact that there was really not a lot of charcters to choose from. I think that when you have the chance to level up only two different charcters at once there should be more to choose from so that the game is just that much better. I have read complaints about how there should not have been a third disk that it was not necessary. Well I am going to say that there was a definite need for it because of all the movies that were on that disk. The ending movie alone was over five minutes. That is alot of sotrage of info for that disk not including all of the other movies that took place on that disk. It was needed bottom line. One of the best parts of this game were the side quests and mini games. Jezz....there is so many of them that I could just play those for about 40 hours and not get board. This of course inculdes the Chocobo races and breeding side quest which is kind of annyoing but worth while when you get the ultamite summon. Another thing was the weapon battles which were a pain in the ass to win but made you feel special after you beat them. Overall this game had minor problem but that didn't matter since everything else was amazing for that time period. This is the end of my review...buy this game and while your at it buy two copies because if something happens thats not good you can always be safe and continue the amazing sotry line that this game has to offer.
