An addictive fun game, with a compelling story which has never been brought on before like this. A true Final Fantasy!
Gameplay: The gameplay is where I think this game scores the lowest. It seems to be nothing but a carbon copy from FFVI with some new twists. I like the ATB however it's a little too much like FFVI. Sure there are new special attacks which are vastly over powering, new types of attacks, and a new Materia system, however it feels a little dated.. The overworld is very well done, nothing new there either. Eventually you'll get to play minigames which other Final Fantasy's don't have. This is a typical Final Fantasy in terms of gameplay. Sound: The sounds, background music, and sound effects in this game are absolutely at the top of my list in the Final Fantasy series. Some of these songs are just so masterfully done that it can truly set the bar for some of the latter games. They have everything from rock and roll songs for bosses, mysterious creepy guitar solo songs, inserts of funeral bells, and choir pieces and inserts for final bosses. The soundtrack alone makes the price of this game just perfect. Not very many pieces out there from Final Fantasy are as famous as the One Winged Angel track, which blends choir, with latin's lyrical genius. Even now people use the tracks from this game, in so many things. Graphics: Graphics were extraodinarily good for a PS1 game. However now they are very outdated, but back in the day this was pretty close to being the best as they could get. Only a few games actually surpass this one, and pull off being a great game! The graphics in this game shouldn't hamper your experience at all, because there is so much more which can tie and bound you into the everlasting story of Final Fantasy VII. Replay Value: There's tons of extra things to do in this game. There's quite a bit you can miss on your first play through. There's tons of final levels of Materia to get, some which are nearly invisble, some even summon great creatures to do battle for you from Chocobos, to the Knights of The Round Table! There's also many minigames to play, everyones final weapons, extra bosses called Weapons, easter eggs to collect, best accessories and armor too! There's tons of Yellow Magic to collect from learning from enemies, and it's always nice to play this game through once more. Final Note: Hmmmm. I gave this game a score of 8.0 because it seems to copy too much from previus Final Fantasy's. An eight means that it's a great game, a nine means that it stands above the rest, and is a instant classic, and a ten from means its nearly perfect in every aspect. Since this game is probably hard to find now. I'd check a local Gamestop, Gamecrazy, or EbGames bargain bin. It's price is so low by now that any money you spend on it will be well worth your money. This is by no means a renter, and is four discs chalked full of lasting impressions of fun! I'd recommend this game to any Square Enix fan, and to those who've been living inside a cave the past 10 years!
