Awesome in ways you didn't think possible for a PlayStation game.
Obviously, most people in this generation, regardless of my age or course, don't appreciate games for certain times. Final Fantasy VII is a great PlayStation game and I've downloaded it from the PlayStation Network. I say the game is worth every penny, from great gameplay to best original score. You really have to play the game in order to understand the game's true elements.
The Final Fantasy series would be the best Role-Playing series of all time if it wasn't for the kid friendly Pokemon series, which I admit was a step forward to portable gaming. Games like Tales of Vesperia and Blue Dragon for the Xbox 360 practically copied the same JRPG elements as Final Fantasy VII. The only thing they've done is improve their graphics, new mini games, and renamed everything, but you will admit yourself that they were "inspired" by Final Fantasy VII. But of course this is all my opinions. Director, Yoshinori Kitase, and composer, Nobuo Uematsu, really out did themselves in this game; Final Fantasy VII possibly made them famous in the first place.
The game's graphics vary from time to time, and what I mean by that is first, it becomes 3D CGI (not like movies) movies, witch means you can't play, but are extremely beautiful and life like, in my opinion. Afterward, the game shows its other 3D sprites that you'll usual play throughout the games. The battle sequence are Active Time Battles (ATB), this means that anybody on the battlefield can attack each other at anytime once recharge their time required. Battle sequences are just amazing, simple melees, but destructive Summons, superb magic uses, and invigorating moves called "Limit Breaks". "Limit Breaks" are modified forms of Final Fantasy VI's "Desperation Attacks", they work by getting hit by the enemies a certain amount of time, building a pink gauge. This is "Limit Break", and when it is full it flashes, letting you unleash damaging moves; they can level up in several ways which become more and more devastating. The environments are completely 3D and can change when turned into CGI mode. Magic is called "materia, and just like "Limit Breaks", can level up to become stronger. Summons are also materia, and do not level up, but instead you obtain new Summons that become more and more powerful as you progress.
The game's story is independent, like Final Fantasy games usually are, but does spawn sequels and prequels in forms of movies and other games to form the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. The game took me 70+ hours on my first gameplay and I recorded my time playing every time I cut it on. The Protagonists and villains are also to be praised for their well written scripts and objective. Sephiroth, the main antagonist, wants to rule the universe, not destroy it like other super villains. As for Cloud Strife, the main protagonist, plans to stop him, and not snow, sleet, or hail is gonna stop him. The games is overly impressive, and don't take my word for it, buy it. I mean get a PlayStation Network card and buy the game. R & R people. Be Awesome.
