Final Fantasy VII review. Im late, but Hey, its Final Fantasy VII. (Next time i'll totally go sooooooo much deeper!!!)
Where to begin now? So late in the game.. how in the hell is he going to pull this off you might wonder.. I will.
Graphics.. Not back then.. Compare them to Now! Final Fantasy VII's Graphics still remain elite. The smoothness and flow, even the CGI and how they contrast everything is done perfectly beyond the graphics that now a day games can conceive.. Yes now they look incredibly realistic and in my opinion fantastic. Where graphics are concerned they can easily make a game. In Final Fantasy VII, The Graphics are Made By the Game. Midgar.. The city was just pure garbage assumed to be thrown or left behind by those on the upper plate.. The graphics may not be in 3D but constraining them to be in a 2D path with 3D characters just has an amazing payoff. Theyre allowed to go deeper into detail and make everything unique- Something you Will NOT find in any present game. Oh look! It's a TV that's smashed, or a bent metal pole, or some sort of spiked wheel, or a lamp or endless trash just heaped up along the screen that just perfectly portrays the game setting. You wont find this kind of detail work done in present games again sadly heh, its just too much work.. And beyond that, the even more interesting part is how they worked with these graphics, the background actually faded or traced opposite or in parallel with the direction you were going to make it even more feel like you were being surrounded by Midgar.. And then Cloud's Hair.. Was just perfect, you couldn't beat it. The Spikey haired freak was incredible, and the graphics just tied in with that uniqueness to make the game even bare more strengths. Games now hide from their poor end sided graphics, ignoring them entirely where FFVII took them in (even if at the time were great- dis-proven by how the next set of graphics actually looks..), and made them into something cool and funny and easily more memorable than any character in any other game.
Since you can understand and realize that those parts and types of the graphics carries in throughout ever scenario of the game, The Next part of Graphics is the battle! The battle graphics are just Supremely well done.. With the character models and lighting it is just fantastic to go from the so-so normal graphics to the battle graphics where theyre entirely on steroids.. Adds much intensity to the battle (along with the music, summons, magic, attacks, weapons, abilities and more heh).. So yeah, If youre going to try and question FFVII's Graphics even in the Present day, Be afraid, that games Graphics still kick more ass than most games graphics do today.
You guys are lucky, I don't feel I should release the 20 page report I wrote on Why FFVII is the best game Forever a few years back, this is just an extremely brief citation of it haha.
Gameplay- The movements and holding down X to run are just perfect and makes it so Both hands are always doing something most of the time, less soreness as well as less physical boredom. That's just one Extremely Small aspect (imagine what I could do with how the hands are holding the Playstation controller haha). Gameplay continues.. The movement is just fluid and gets you across each area perfectly, and in the case of Beta Butt (the midgar Zolem I nicknamed Beta butt because when I was a kid I fought him atleast 200 times and he always killed me with Beta.. Then the next day I found out I could get a chocobo! Ahh but the nickname stuck with me haha)..so in the case of Beta Butt.. Even then the movement is perfectly crafted within the game.. The zolem goes just fast enough that you cant outrun him under normal circumstances. Simple little perfects like this that you again wont find in normal kinds of games, just adds to the creativity of Final Fantasy VII. Gameplay like this is faced throughout the game, where only it can be possible with these kinds of graphics and movement abilities. In other games, there is hardly a detail as small as this remembered nor taken advantage of…. Ill skip a few hundred other details and get right into the heart.. The intensity, the spirit, the fight, the hope, the pressure, the satisfaction. The Battle! When your walking around on your last leg and just hoping that the next battle wont finish you off, (that is, when you're playing it for your first time), the intensity just hits that much harder then the screen blazes in swirling into the battle screen.. Leaving you breathless and attentive waiting to see your opponent.. With the battle music just edging on lightly tapping against your mind it just makes you try to think ahead quickly, if its strong! Run, if its medium hit as hard as you can, then see how you think you could last! If its weak, dance to the music and stand up roaring and laughing to yourself about how you're about to crush the enemy.. Not that all fights are like that.. No.. this is one out of a thousands that could be heh.. The battle part is just an incredible part of the game.. Within the places as well, the background is well balanced.. Could use a bit more random background pictures but overall if they had used more, I personally would have felt out of place, I like seeing a familiar setting sometimes. The Battle music itself.. Is just amazing as hype goes up, you're waiting to fight.. Everything just comes out into the open, you wonder how you can defeat all the enemies easiest and without wasting the most.. Or there might be a boss battle up ahead just maybe so you want to get there limits up.. Taking a beating. The structure of the battle.. Is just perfect.. Time Based turns, with magic to either increase or decrease them, or special skills as well with summons or items that also could benefit.. The battle system is just perfectly well done and perfectly integrated into the game.
The famous Materia System. Having special materia to find.. And its all extremely useful throughout the game, You can choose to equip certain kinds to level it up, instead of just having a HUGE freakin sack in each battle (They show its stored in a freakin Chest in Advent Children so honestly its extremely reasonable to think they couldn't carry it all into each fight).. And each kind of weapon you have either has slots connect or not where you can place the materia and in instances, combo them for even greater effects.. The materia- green/red/blue/yellow for magic/summon/additional/command.. All have unique and easily overwhelming purposes.. Its all useful and played out perfectly though.
Each materia can be used as much as how many stars there are on it. Most go to 5 stars, when getting 5, its Mastered and a new materia is created. You gain more stars by getting AP points, gained by defeating monsters and other enemies. Its all well balanced, especially with the Summon. Detail is given to Everything in this game, For higher powerful summon materia that you find throughout the game (By You finding it and not being given), it takes a lot to level up to be able to use the summon twice, let alone master it.. As most materia, the stronger it is the stronger it takes to use it more.
Ill get more brief.
The storyline.. Is Perfect. Everything happens perfectly.. I remember at parts I was crying or laughing or just mad and just as confused as Cloud was.. The storyline is also Extremely well integrated into the game.. At parts like finding either Limit Breaks (when a character is beat up enough, they get to use a special attack, and the final Limit Breaks have to be discovered, instead of the usual just using/meeting requirements of a past limit break to unlock the next one).. But yeah, for the final limits you have to go on side quests that are still as much as part of the storyline as anything else. Every part is not some random occurrence.. Most parts happen perfectly, you wont just happen upon this or that, you'll be led there, or already chosen to go there.. There is some relief though, with the Turks this doesn't always hold true haha… but that's just more to the storyline that I wont give because theres just that much about this game that fills up every want.. Its just Perfect and we'll leave it at that. No other game fills itself up with as much storyline as Final Fantasy VII. Every part.. The Rocket, Cid's Dream.. An old man looking up at the rocket.. Shera.. The Tiny Bronco.. The Highwind.. The Lever to activate a special thing you get to see at the end of the game.. Its all just perfectly well done and all together..
And the music.. Nobuo Eumatsu.. Did a perfect job on this game.. Aeris theme, he perfected it. One Winged Angel.. Pure chaos and evil Incarnate.. SEPHIROTH! Tifa's theme.. So sweet and a great friend.. To Cid's theme… dreams of a much greater place… Theres dozens and dozens and every part you hear them.. Theyre Exactly as they should be. Anything else.. And it would Never have been Final Fantasy VII.
So now.. You have a very short, unfinished Review of Final Fantasy VII.. Compared to Nowadays Games.. An Elite.. The Top.. Perfect that will most likely never be reached again. FINAL FANTASY VII.
