Final Fantasy VII (PS1) is the greatest RPG ever made.

I really didnt think there would be a better RPG than Final Fantasy III (Super Nintendo) well, until I played FFVII. The year was 1997 and I was stationed in Japan. As usual, Japan gets the goods first and everybody I knew was scrambling to get the japanese version. Well, unfortunately I couldn't understand kanji and when I play an RPG I like to understand the characters and story. Okay, so after a loooong 6 month cruise I go to the nearest store on-base and what do they have: 1 last copy of the U.S. version of Final Fantasy VII!!! only one problem: I had to hit an ATM for $. Well, I THOUGHT it was fortunate that I had my best friend with me a the time to hold on to it for me (and he already owned the japanese version so I figured he wasn't missing much) I come back with the money and guess what? no, go ahead take a WILD guess at what he did: HE BOUGHT IT!! I've never been so pissed off! then I realized after much pleading that he was only doing it as a joke. Martinez if you're reading this THANK YOU.

Okay, so I have what has been dubbed a TECHNOLOGICAL advance in RPGs' and yknow what: from the intro I knew I had something special, something I would never put down, and the only thing to keep me out of bars for awhile. The characters I really got into, the story was full of intrigue, and the graphics were amazing! but, the one thing that stood out for me and still does to this very moment is the soundtrack. The music is the best thing going in this game! so good in fact that I had to rush to buy the soundtrack (I finally found it at a train station shop in Yokohama) and since that time it hasnt left my side. Now who was my favorite character(s) well, thats easy: Cloud and Sephiroth. Favorite spot: The Gold Saucer! I also liked the town of Wutai- it's GORGEOUS!!

I am used to random-battles. But, what makes this random battles so fun is the use of LIMIT BREAKS and SUMMONS. I love Tifa's limit break once she has all the components to it. Favorite summons I'd have to go with THE KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND. If you have not yet experienced that then consider it a must do in life. A possible favorite battle- SPOILER ALERT!!
last battle against Sephiroth and when you see that star charts as he unleashes METEOR I knew it was going to hurt.

Another thing I liked about this game was the interactive stuff such as choosing your actions and/or dialogue. Some moments were hilarious and others heartbreaking. It all builds up to one big finale where, to be honest, you really want to complete this game and kick final boss rear.

Much respect to Final Fantasy III as you are still in my top 10 but, Final Fantasy VII has it all: graphics, music, epic story, unforgettable characters, and enough quest to keep you busy for a bit. SquareSoft (now SquareEnix) you are the God of all RPG makers and usual you never let us down.

So, before you move on to the newer systems do yourself a favor: find this game and play it as you will never regret the time you spend with this masterpiece.
