Final Fantasy is back again with it's 8th installment, and it likely won't disappoint.
So, you boot up the game and you're treated to a badass FMV that doesn't make sense (but really flashes many scenes of future events) and you wake up in the hospital, where you're revealed to be a crybaby emo 17 year old. For the first hour or so, you're goofing around in Balamb Garden, a military-school influenced by Japanese life. You perform a few missions and then you're sent out into a battlefield where you deal with some tough bosses. You pass the 'test' and become a SeeD, and quickly get involved with world-levels of espionage and fight the big bad only to be revealed to the actual big bad.
One of the things that people either love or hate about the game, besides the irritating love story, is the mechanics of the game. Outside of the first level, every level only takes 1000 exp to reach, and enemies also level up with you. There's also a system called 'Junctioning' which is like the materia system from 7, but more flexible in the means that every stat can be modified instead of just equiping magic, which in this game, you have to draw from enemies, which can take upwards to 10 hours to max out all spells for. However, there is the ability to refine items into magic via GFs (Guardian Forces) which you mainly have to get the abilities for by playing an obnoxious and repetitive card game which will mean you have to reload constantly for the rules of the game to change to your own ends.
The game seems rushed and not very solid, but if you can tolerate it, it can be an amazing experience.
