Ugh... Some of the parts in this game suck so bad even school would be more fun, but not too bad nonetheless.
The graphics are a HUGE plus. Never seen anything like it. Has some of the best graphics out of all those RPG games. I also like how the characters are built, although in my opinion Paine seems to have split personalities. Aside from that, there are many characters and scenes that are pretty humorous, but I've played another RPG where humor goes beyond what it does in this game. The dressphere system is pretty cool, and gives you something to do, and learn new moves, but like everything else, it does get old after a while. The fights are sort of a disappointment. All I have to do is have a healer backing me up and keep pressing X the rest of the time, but some of the moves are nice nonetheless.
The idea of learning a language is pretty original, so plus points for that too, and some of the best parts of the game include playing sphere-break in chapter 3 and 5, so plus points for originality in that too. Beclem's shooting game also adds a bit of a fun aspect to playing the game, so more plus points.
The storyline... Oh my god, I never thought I'd EVER play an RPG game with such a bad storyline, and trust me I've played pokémon games on a gameboy advance before. There is NO plot development until the end of chapter 3, over halfway through the game. Even then, you could probably catch the most important parts of the storyline just from the crimson spheres. The storyline was so bad I haven't even bothered to finish the game, but I'm making progress step by step. I'm in chapter 5, getting those episode complete screnes. I really hope something interesting happens or this game belongs in the bargain bin for $20. The only thing in this game worse than the storyline is.....
The music...UGH!! It's so horrible I'd rather listen to techno, or even elevator music!! Seriously, I won't be able to tell the difference with the sound off or the sound on. The music is so bad that you'll even fail to notice it. All those songs that Yuna sings, only the first theme was even decent enough, the rest COMPLETELY horrible. Come on! Even over 95% of gameboy advance games have better music than this, although the voice acting and voice originality is a minor plus.
I wouldn't want to play this game again after I'm done with it the first time, except maybe to try and get the 100% completion, and even that, I don't think is worth it.
