A fun adventure with an epic strory and a moving musical score to enhance the experience.
Graphics: 9/10
Final Fantasy X's graphics certainly do impress. Everything from the CG sequences and environments down to the character and monster design was taken care of delicately. Final Fantasy has always been on top of their game when it came to graphics in the series. The only bad thing that could irritate some players is the inconsistency between the gameplay characters and the CG characters. When the game cuts to a CG sequence, there is a very noticeable difference in the looks of your characters. You know it is your characters, but they look a little more... Japanese in CG. Still, the CG sequences are done beautifully. One more thing that might urk some is the lip syncing when characters speak. Its not that it isn't well done, rather, the game was originally intended to be spoken in Japanese.
Sound: 10/10
The sound in this game is outstanding! The musical score seems to fit the grooves of the game perfectly. Every emotion, event, battle, and town is accompanied with music that is definitely memorable and intensifies the emotion it is portraying. The voice acting is also remarkable. When playing the game, it almost felt like watching a movie because the voice acting was so convincing. Gameplay: 8/10
The formula is the same as with all other Final Fantasy games. When a battle occurs, you enter the field of battle and take turns whacking at the enemy with menu based combat. There is one major difference this time. When in battle there is a panel to the right of the screen telling you what order you and the enemy attack in. Certain spells and attacks might change this order for the better or worse depending on what it is. This is a welcome change. It feels like you have more control and it gives a certain strategy that other games in the series don't have. When you aren't in battle, you are usually figuring out what to do next. There is usually no problem there because this game is very linear. Rather than having an overworld where you can roam freely, you are instead running on pre-set roads and fields. Even traveling by airship is limited to pointing on a map where to go.
All in all this is a great game that will definitely tickle an RPG player's fancy. Now, for those who aren't interested in RPGs that much, you might find your self confused, but I would still recommend you try the game for yourself anyway. If story is your thing, then this game will not disappoint. The characters are well developed and the story is well told.
Pros: * Great story and soundtrack.
* Nice touch to battle system.
* Beautiful graphics.
* Did I mention great music?
Cons:
* Very linear.
* Lips out of sync in spoken dialogue (really not a big deal).
