The quintessential RPG for any Playstation 2 owner, and my favorite in the Final Fantasy saga.
*!WARNING POSSIBLE SPOILERS!*
Final Fantasy X stars Tidus (Or whatever you name him). A young blitzball ace who lives in the massive city of Zanarkand. On the day of a usual blitzball game a massive creature known only as Sin attacks and Tidus and his friend/guardian Auron fight their way to get out of the city. However Auron and Tidus get sucked into Sin itself, Tidus get sent to a strange place and Auron's nowhere to be seen. You soon find out that you are no longer in Zanarkand, but a much more dangerous and hostile place known as Spira. Not too far into the game you are taken away by people known as Al Bhed, they take you onto their ship and Sin attacks again. Tidus is once again swept away to the Isle of Besaid where he meets another player of Blitzball named Wakka and his down and out team the Besaid Aurochs. On besaid you also meet Yuna, a summoner, Lulu, a black mage, and Khimari, a creature known as a Ronso. Together with these people, Tidus sets out to find his way back to Zanarkand. Along the way you participate in the Luca Blitzball tournament and meet up with Auron again. You are also introduced to another character who plays a big part in the story, Maester Seymour. You also learn that Yuna's pilgrimage is to the "Aincient" city of Zanarkand that was apparently destroyed 1000 years ago. There Yuna can finally learn how to destroy Sin and bring about The Calm for Spira.
The gameplay of FFX is what you come to expect from a Final Fantasy game. But this time its much faster, maybe even faster than FF7. Battles are once again mostly random and involve turn based tactics. But no longer is there a time limit you have to wait to attack, it all depends on who's turn it is on the turn slot on the right side of the screen. As with all other FF games you gain points in battles but these are used not for leveling but for using the Sphere Grid. The SG is a MASSIVE board that has nodes on it that either increase a characters' strength, agility, or give them abilities and so on. Managing which abilities you want or which nodes to activate is a whole other part of the game. There are some huge boss battles in the game and most of them are fun, some are ball bustingly hard, and others are just a good challengs. The monsters in the game are pretty well varied but as with other FF games you will see re-used models but with different names, attacks, and colors. But this is only a minor gripe. The game is massive and will take you in upwards of 100 hours if you are trying to get EVERYTHING done, this includes Blitzball, Sphere Grid, finding the Ultimate Weapons, and Chocobo Races. So for however much you pay, weather it be 20 dollars or higher you're definitely getting your money's worth. I highly reccomend FFX to anyone who likes RPG games.
