Tidus, that's your name, you are a famous blitzball player in the modern city of Zanarkand. You start the game with a movie, in which Tidus is playing in a blitzball match and after that, the destruction begins. Zanarkand is attacked by, what seems to be, a huge waterball hovering over the city. After that, the ball transports you into another time (also, the storyline is way confusing, I still have some doubts about it) were you are kidnapped by a human race called the Al-Bheds. Then you are transported to another place (dunno if it's another time too) and after that, the true adventure begins.
The fighting system is the normal turn-based battles, but they add the "Overdrive" feature. The "Overdrive" is a special attack the characters have (different attacks or "Overdrives" for each character) which let's you unleash big amounts of damage.
In the end, it's a remarkable game and it's worth buying.
PS: Oh, I forgot one of the coolest things, you can actually play blitzball, their sport! It's basically an underwater hand-soccer game, it's really good. You can also buy and sell players from your blitzball team.
