New? Old?
I say this game has good graphics for the year it was made in and still is pretty good at the 2005, the sound is wonderful in certain cutscenes ( The Intro with the Song ' Otherworld ' or where the Al Bhed attack Sin in Mushroom Rock )
But certain tunes can get annoying, the random battle tune can make you mute the TV at certain times. The gameplay has its story, it's a bit un-realistic, but, hey, the game is called Final ! Fantasy !, though the whole plot has its meaning, at certain times the game just gets off the plot and gives you some unnecessary mini-games and/or boss battles that don't go with the story.
At some times the game has a feeling you are pointed out as a slave doing nothing ( chocobo races for example ).
The difficulty is so-so, training never hurts but certain battles are a major disappointment ( Yu Yevon was the worst end boss ever ), you would want more of a challenge but the Dark Aeons for the international will make a bit of challenge without guides or good strategy.
The value for the game fits right, there is plenty to do master and explore in the game, maybe there is still something not found or some spell not mastered on the grid, it's really cheap at the monent ( 2005 ) and you should find it on all major game stores.
And there's is the lifespan you want to replay just because you may have not done that one little thing.
Easily a good game in the series, certainly not the best, but worth your money, you should not be disappointed.
