Worth a play for any FF Series fan.
Final Fantasy X, like most games in the series has an awesome storyline that will leave you eager to play the game to the very end. It does have some areas where it may be a bit choppy or questionable, but overall the storyline is steady but predictable.
The sphere grid is a new innovative way to build your characters and unlike the majority of Final Fantasy games, a levelling system is not used. Therefore your characters only method of growth is completely within your hands as you gain 'Sphere Levels' and choose a path of skills, attributes, magic and abilities that the selected character can follow. While obtaining special key spheres later on or other special spheres, you will have more options in moving around the board and customizing your character to your playing strategy.
There are plenty of things to do on the side, like most Final Fantasy games, whether it be perfecting your characters and their abilities, unlocking their special weapons or even the new Monster Arena. The Monster Arena is one of the key features in the game and testing your ability within Final Fantasy games. Travelling the world you can capture numerous monsters and unlock special bosses to fight.
For the first time as well, you can break the '9999' limit in all aspects. Whether it be the damage you deal, your hit points or even your limited '999' magic points that there once was. This does not come automatically however, special weapons give you these abilities and allow you to exceed the limits that prior Final Fantasy games held on you. These weapons are required for numerous of the bosses you unlock in the Monster Arena, as one attack could kill your entire party otherwise. Specifically the main Monster Area boss "Nemesis".
On another note for the weapon customization, weapons will have 1-4 slots and with Rikku in your party, you can use items to add abilities to these weapons. There is a long range of abilities that can be added, but only a max of 4 can be applied and that is to weapons with 4 empty slots. So you must choose the attributes of your weapons very carefully. Some abilities will be hard to come across because they require a large amount of rare items, but you can make any of your dream weapons with enough gameplay, assuming it is within 4 slots.
Overall, Final Fantasy X is definately worth a play and is a step in a different direction within the entire Final Fantasy series. There are many things that previous Final Fantasy games have never featured such as the weapon customization, breaking the health/magic/damage limits, the monster arena, the sphere grid and many more. Give Final Fantasy X a try, you will not be disappointed with it. It offers a fun addictive gameplay, with many new features and will keep you busy for a good amount of time.
