What happened at Square? A good game with some odd decisions...

I started playing FF when FFX came out on the PS2. FFX caught my attention immediately and gave me hours and hours of great fun and excitement. Ever since then I was looking forward to this game. When I finally got this game and startet playing, something weird happened: I was excited about the game and the new gameplay features, but something was missing, and it just didn't give me the feeling I had, playing the other FF games. The characters in this game are awfull! Vaan is supposed to be the main character, or is it Ashe? They both stink as main characters anyway!
No personality! Vaans job is to stand by the others in the background and making stupid comments once everywhile. Althoug i like the actors that give the characters voices. It's a cool english accent which, in my oppionion, works well. Especially on Fran!

Another thing that really bothers me is the main story! The sidestories are OK, but the overall experience seems boring and uninspired. Almost seems like it just was thrown together at the last second! Its not magical! Its far to "realistic", theres no mistery or surprises really! Probably the worst story in the FF series' history! (At least in the games I've played)

The license board idea... Hmmm.... I don't really know about it... I'ts OK i guess, but to buy magic in shops? Seems a little boring to me...

The rewards in this game is a little boring I think. I liked the idea with the celestial weapons back in FFX, but in this game there isn't any great reward. And the ones there are, are far to easy to get! Well yeah there is a lot of money rewards, but who cares about money, really? Maybe it's just me, but I still hoped for some cooler rewards, like break limits;)

But lets not forget that there are many good things in this game as well! Fortunately there are more good things than bad things!! I really like the new gameplay! The dissapearance of random encounters is excelent. Choose your own battles! Good idea! And the very fluid fights are great, and the gambit system helps greatly without taking the element of strategy out of the game! The graphics. Needless to say, It's absolutely amazing what they have done with the PS2 hardware! Excelent!

Overall this game is defenately worth playing! No doubt about it! But it lacks in some essential ingredients for the perfect FF game! I'm still playing the game, but I cant wait for the FFXIII game!
