FFXII being the sequel to one of the best games on the PS2 has a lot to live up to, and for the most part it does. The game revolves around politics and has a mature story this time around. This will please some fans but may displease others. The graphics are some of the best on the PS2. Some differences can be noticed however in graphical details between some areas. The city and towns will usually looks slightly more polished than some dungeons. For the most part the difference is unnoticeable. You will stop at the game simply to look at the city of Rebanastre, inhabited of people walking around and going about their business. The graphics and details do a good job to immerse you in the game. The sound is very good in this game. The voice dialogue is very well done, it appears as if you were listening to a movie. The quality of the sound and the dialogue itself is one of game highlights. The sound tracks in the game however could have been better. It doesn't feel as epic or immersive as past FF titles, however for the most part it fits the mood of the game nicely. This game will take you over 70 hours to finish. It is a very long game with many optional side quests and optional bosses. The game however feels a little dragged down in about 1/3 of the game. For example you'll get missions such as meet with x person, to meet that person you need y item, to get y item you need to backtrack to some z place, after you do all that, the person is not where you thought he would be so you have to go to another place, one single event in the story can be dragged somewhat more than it should be. Either way the game has tons of hours of gameplay into it. The story is where the game could have shined but falls somewhat short of expectations. The game feels more like a movie, while it may be good to some, it lacks the FF style storyline that presents you with memorable characters and makes you hope for a sequel. Chances are you won't be attached to any character when you finish the game, not one character is fully developed in the game. The game centers around Ashe, so in a sense she is the main character, the other are simply tagging alone. The story never goes too deep into the other characters' stories. The story is what you might expect from a Hollywood movie, it has a few twists but it's predictable for the most part. Overall FFXII is a great game that is fun to play and can keep you occupied for a long time. For anyone who enjoys RPGs it's a must-buy.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This is the approach that many game franchises take. Sure, they’ll make a few changes here and there, but the core game stays the same. Final Fantasy is at the top of that list. Despite p... Read Full Review
