Despite being rather unfriendly to neophytes of the series, Final Fantasy 12 is a lengthly, fun adventure at all times.

User Rating: 9.5 | Final Fantasy XII PS2
I'm going to cut to the chase; you will practically forget real life once buying this game. For the first five or ten hours of game play, however, you will still be learning; the game's features are so vast and complex that you need either to be a teenager or have a math degree from MIT to understand them. Even the gambit system, despite being presented in a simple way, will take some time to fully comprehend. Now, some may think that things like the gambit system and "Quickenings," which are the limit breaks of Final Fantasy 12, may unbalance the game, making it so you control less of the game, or so the game is too easy. This is entirely false. The game's difficulty level is practically impossible for even the most seasoned veterans of the Final Fantasy series, and I would give this a much, much lower rating for people who don't play many video games. The game should take you a little under 100 hours to complete the plot, and add another 100 hours if you want to do a few side missions. The graphics are stunning, and even more so in hi definition with HD cables. The sound is mediocre, which is to be expected; Umeatsu isn't composing it. I still played the entire game with surround sound due to the amazingly cool sound effects. If you ever have a chance to do this, do it; as a large monster walks, the floor will literally shake. There probably isn't a better way to get you completely immersed in the game. The value should have a lower score, due to the fact that the game is 50$ and 60$ for the collector's version, however, a 100 hour game that never gets boring is worth double that. When you consider that this game also has many side quests that are also insanely fun and leave you wanting more, well, you have your money's worth. Is it the best game in the series? Not even close. Is it a great game? You bet your ass it is.
