I admit it... this is a good game, but I hate it. When I first started playing it I enjoyed the new feel & look of the battle system but slowly slowly it began to make me sick, I dunno what's the problem but it feels very broken, the story the gameplay the sound, even the speech of the characters, I find it very annoying and i'm very disappointed at Square Enix for taking this direction in gameplay. It's not an RPG anymore, it's turned into those kind of Strategy RPGs for the PC in which you spend hours and hours playing just to pass one area of the game, and sadly I don't have the time nor the patience to play for 200 hours a game that takes another 50 hours just to get a clear comprehension of the battle system ( I played the game for 10 hours before I gave up and I still didn't understand 10% of the gambit system.. maybe its just me I dunno). Lastly, I did give the game a second chance, but something happened (more than once) that was the final straw. I'm battling away leveling up for about an hour in a dungeon and actually having fun, of course a save point is like another hour away so i just continued on hoping for one to pop up sooner than usual. Suddenly while battling a bunch of enemies (with HP & MP high with all my characters), I suddenly notice they're getting killed one by one, with only Van left standing I try to flee by pressing the Flee Button, but that only made it worse with the enemies catching up to me and killing me. Just imagine how I felt, wasting an hour of hard work (more than once), I almost broke the controller. I'd also like to point out from this story how dumb the Fleeing in this game is, you're better off just running away without holding the button.
I've been a fan of Final Fantasy since FF8 and have played & owned pretty much all of them (including the FF3 DS remake which is very nice), I just pray that Square Enix don't stick to this formula with FF13 and beyond, because if they do, they'll lose a fan...
