A fresh coat of paint can only do so much to improve Final Fantasy Anniversary.

User Rating: 7.1 | Final Fantasy PSP
Final Fantasy Anniversary is yet another reincarnation of the classic NES game for the PSP. Unlike more recent additions to the Final Fantasy series there is no real deep or engaging story. Four light warriors are going on a quest to restore the four crystals and save the world. The battle and customization features of the characters are as bare bones as they get. You battle level up and get the next sword or the next spell to give to your character to strengthen your character. The large amounts of random encounters get tiring especially with the simple battle system. Another difference between this and more modern RPG's or games in general is that there is a severe lack of direction. You can wander for hours with no idea of where to go. You either have to talk to every person in a town or consult a FAQ guide. The only thing that is new is the graphics. All of the art in this game has been redrawn to give the game a more fresh and bright look. Overall, Final Fantasy Anniversary provided that your are prepared to go into an old school RPG this game will provide a good RPG that is worth playing if you have a PSP and have not played any other version of this game.
