Fire Pro Wrestling Returns (PS2) don't be scared; it is a GREAT wrestling game and is worth your time.
The graphics are a brilliant 2-D. This in NO WAY hinders the game. As a matter of fact it feels good to get away from all the flash and glitz of newer wrestling titles. The music is so-so but, believe it or not some it sounds better than the create-a-wrestler music in the SDVSRW series! the control is average but, what makes this game fun is the strategy which I came to respect quickly. Button mashers beware indeed. Do too much and your wrestler gets winded leaving him or her wide open for attack. The specials have made it in as well but like most wrestling games you have to wait until your opponent is weak enough before using it.
I never would have thought a game like this would outdo the beloved SDVSRW series but, this game has done just that. I do wish the controls had a little more polish but, I do love the automatic grapple which to be honest I found the moves to be pulled off with ease (maybe I'll sing a different tune when I UP the difficulty) and I wish this game had a season mode but, to be honest it's a nice vacation getting away from the corny WWE storylines and about the commentary: THERE IS NONE! so you don't have to listen to the same crap over and over again. This is without a doubt the deepest wrestling experience I've ever played. The price for this game doesn't do it justice as it should have been priced higher so don't let the cheap price fool you because this game is anything but.
In conclusion I regard this game in VERY HIGH esteem. Another secret is this game really does have unlimited replay from what I've gathered so far. With a deep rosters, ability to create MANY wrestlers, and different match types and it will take a looooooong time before this game runs out of gas.
SMVSRW, take notes because you just lost your wrestling crown to Fire Pro Wrestling Returns.
