Tired of WWE??? Try Fire Pro!!!!

User Rating: 8.5 | Fi-Pro Returns PS2
While THQ has pretty much dominated the wrestling video games with their WWE Smackdown games, Fire Pro Returns is a welcomed alternative to the somewhat typical if not predictable WWE line up,...and after the release of Smackdown Vs Raw 2008,....FPR was like a breath of fresh air.

Fire Pro Returns comes across as slightly more customizable with more slots for creating wrestlers, more moves, and a nice, classic 2-dimensional arcade-like feel. True, some of the animations feel "stiff" and some CAW creations seem limiting, but there are more move-sets and finishers and a person is able to get somewhat close to what you want as far as your own CAW or even the original wrestler. It should also be noted that not all the finishers like the RKO or the FU,....but the features outweigh any shortcomings.

Aside from having the CAW feature, Fire Pro decided to give a 2-dimensional feel and give it an arcade sort of feel. The voice overs are limited to only a few needed vocals. The creation modes are a tad better than the WWE games. You are able to create logos (a bit tricky to figure out at times) and even your own ring. Sorry,....you can't do the six sided TNA ring but you are able to generate a classic WWF or WCW ring complete with your own logo. There are a few more arenas to choose from,....mostly typical arenas and gym style setting. There is an MMA / UFC cage match complete with MMA style fighters. You can also create your own referee if you like. As far as wrestlers,.....there are loads of already generated wrestlers here and there. Interestingly enough some do resemble already established names and CAW slots,....let's just say that if you can think of about 200 or 300 CAWs,.....go for it.

All in all,....I am more of a fan of Fire Pro than Smackdown Vs Raw 2008 due to the overall features it has. Despite any shortcomings, Fire Pro is an instant classic and ranks right up there. Now if the company that put it out could just continue the trend and put out more editions of it,....it would give THQ a solid run for it's money.
