Ford Mustang:The Legend Lives is a bargin-bin priced racing game developed by Eutechnyx and published by 2K Games. This game isn't worth the budget price, even for die-hard Mustang fans, it's that bad. Ford Mustang:The Legend Lives has single player and multiplayer modes. In single player there are three main modes, arcade, career, and challange. In arcade there is quick race, time attack, and eliminator modes. In career mode there is amature and professional modes. The tracks are a little less challenging in amature but the computer AI seems the same. In Challange mode there is time attack and slalom races. The slalom races are actually races where you have to drive through "gates" that are orange barrels placed on the track. The game has 40 Mustangs that span the 40+ year history of the Mustang. There are concept cars, limited edition cars, race cars, and normal production cars. You don't have access to all the cars when you start the game. You unlock cars by beating certian races in career and challange modes, and by getting style points. You are awarded points for drafting, powersliding, going on two wheels, clean laps, ect. For the most part the cars look like their real life counterparts but they don't have alot of detail and some things are incorrect. The main problem with the cars is that their real life performance isn't reflected in the game. For example a '68 GT handles better then a '87 LX 5.0L, as does a '76 Cobra II, yeah right. A '86 SVO has the exact same performance as the original concept for the Mustang, the Mustang II. The 22 race tracks in the game are really 6 tracks that are set in different cities. There are alternate versions of the tracks but they don't really change that much, you will run the tracks in foward and reverse and will get tired of seeing the same stuff over again. The tracks are bland without alot of color, the night tracks however do look good. This game has poor car physics, your car will hop around in corners and the late models have oversensitive steering making your car dart around the track. These issues make it hard to take corners and don't you the confidence to push your car hard around the track. You never really get a sense of the speed you are traveling and the rumble feature isn't used alot in the game. The opponents "rubber band" AI is poor, they run the same line around the track, when they try to avoid traffic they will make sudden moves severing around the track, they will smash into you instead of trying to avoid a accident. The sound is nothing special, the in game music sucks and there is no option for custom soundtracks. The engines sound good but don't sound correct for the rpm levels, you engine will be at 4,000 rpm but it sounds like it's at 2,500rpm. The tire squeeling is ok, smashing cars sounds like dull thuds. This game has little value, after you play through the single player game you won't feel the need to replay it over again. And the multiplayer is nothing special, not when there are alot better racing game for the xbox. This is the type of game where you play it once and trade it in. This game could of been alot better, they could of took the time to make a better game and charged a higher price for it. It's sad that America's pony car is represented so poorly and incorrectly. I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone, even to a die-hard Mustang fan.
