Fast-paced hack'n'slach fun run in under just a day! Why the rental is the way to go!
Anyone familiar with LOTR:TTT or TRK should feel right at home here. The difference here is a control system for the characters where you actually play with all of them in every level, switching between them for certain key moments/battles.
There is a minor glitch in the game I would like to point out. If your character life meter is almost depleted, simply switch character and he won't die. Simply wait until the computer controlling the other character walk's over a health symbol and voila. Otherwise chance are you would of probably have died.
Anyway even if you play a Barbarian, a Sorcerer and a rogue, they are pretty similar in controls. The Barbarian and Rogue are fighters, the first one obviously stronger and the second quicker. Finally the Sorcerer, is easily compared to a fighter, has you don't control the spell he pummels away. Ironically he is the most used and useful character, has he's the only one that can attack from afar continually . The only downside to his attack being power-up for a proper hit.
The game was fun and really did focused on H/S but some parts are quite tricky. You need to start them over quite a bit to get the hang of it or just to have a clue as to how to kill the boss(the snake area boss proved to be more challenging for me than the last boss).
Speaking of which, if you want any kind of a challenge for the last boss, don't upgrade your characters fully. For our Sorcerer proves that he can kick butt WAY TOO EASILY.
You get a very nice section with a familiar underdark representative, the worldly-acclaimed forgotten realms representative, Drizzt.
So the Pros: new twist on genra(3 character control),Drizzt (it is an EXTRA),fast paced Hack'n'Slash pure fun ,Interesting story, Voice acting by Captain Picard himself a.k.a. Patrick Stewart and great graphics and room actually for a follow-up if some issues are fixed.
The Cons :Game is way to short( a day tops, hence the rental),Last boss ridiculously EASY, No real sense of different fighting style due to the fighting system, difficulty is up and down due to certain characters special powers(Rogue instantaneous kill most noticeably),mix-mashed easiness to hard levels because of inconstant design for battles.
Please note:I gave it a Hard rating even do it took me only a day to beat it because of it's ever changing difficulty depending various factors trough out the game itself.
