The best of the series but....

User Rating: 8.2 | Formula 1 06 PS2
F1 '06 would have to be the best F1 game we have had out. It is definitely the best in the (F1) series. Better then EA's attempt at Formula 1. First the Career mode. Now they made small improvements to this from F105. By small I mean very small. The layout of the career page was nice and refreshing however when you started your career you still had the same options as you did in the previous years game. Being a "rookie" you were offered test drives with three teams. Those teams being the weaker or slower teams. Even if you had played through the career mode once already you still had the same options. The development in this area was the least amount of work they did to the game. Instead of making it realistic, they offer a system based racing engine that doesn't allow for change. The AI of the game needs an improvement as the other cars weren't very smart. The damage system also was not very realistic. You hit a wall and you expect to be out of a race. Instead you can continue. Sometimes the smallest bump will knock your wing or wheel of but a heavy shunt does nothing. This needs improving for the next game.

Being based on the previous years results, if you were driving in Red Bull, Fernando Alonso would win most of the races and it never really changed. Each year those drivers would finish in the same position. The difficulty level was good in F1 '06. If you were a beginner, it allowed you to get used to the car handling and setup until you moved up in the difficulty settings. Each difficulty set new challenges for the gamer to achieve a better race position. The hardest level meant you really needed to know your stuff and was possible to win races on this setting.

The graphics for F1 '06 were pretty good. They weren't the best that a PS2 could offer but still very good. Detail of the surroundings was excellently done.

This game offers hours of fun and entertainment. Is easy to learn and should be able to pick up in no time.
