The good: Bill Gate founder of Microsoft took the idea that Steve Jobs bought from Xerox (the GUI/mouse) and turned it into the one of the single most important devices in our history.  Then since he's never satisifed with that, has improved upon that idea year after year.  And now with the success of the xbox thanks to Halo now has the 360 which is continuing down that road.

The bad: Bill Gates too the GUI and mouse right from under Steve Jobs nose while working for him and marketed a pc in Japan and started down the path to today.  Continues to put out one poorly constructed OS after another while saying they are working hard on hackers and such but each version seems to allow hackers to get more control easier then the previous one.  Rams a new OS (Vista) down everyone throats when the previous version (XP) was very stable and still working correctly.  Not switching my network at work over to Vista for awhile.

All in all, they are a monopoly that we cannot get by without.  If something had been done sooner with their monopoly status maybe the security and such would be better but it's not so we have to live with what we have.

But...all they did was releasing their system one year earlier and stealing all the PS games :?

Yeah, I think that they did a good job at releasing their system a year earlier than its predecessor PS3, and thats why they are the most succesful console right now, also what you said bout them getting license to Past PS games (such as GTA) is getting ahead of the game as well, PS really messed up there, they will never get back up to competition based on their extremely pricey hardware and very low Hard hitting games such as the xbox 360's Dead rising and Gears of War. I'm sad to say that MS will be this generation's biggest console. Also they do have the biggest and easiest online gaming community, but I think that most of their success is thorugh it being apart of a computer company, they can build the stuff at a lower cost than any other console. And that they are gonna release this yrs biggest anticipated game is gaming history, Halo 3 that is gonna kill all other game sales for sony(especially that they now dont have GTA IV as an exclusive) and Nintendo.

Microsoft pretty much screwed Sony over (nice!:twisted: ). All Sony has left is the Final Fantsy series (which might be going to 360 *just a rumor*) and Metal Gear Solid (which might end if Snake actualy does kill himself).

Only in America...they will never be the biggest without the asian market. The Wii is more likely to be the biggest this gen...

Out of the 3 consoles, it is way to early to call it a victory for any of them.  Anything can and will happen over the next few years.  As far as Halo 3, yeah I'll get it at some point but it won't be something I have to rush out and get.  It'll end up in my collection at some point in time but not right away. 

I don't think we'll see many 3rd party exclusives this generation.  These companies are out to make money period.  And if they can get their games on more then just one companies then they are going too.  This will not be the last generation with all the 3rd party exclusives.  It will be up to the 1st party to put the hardware to the test and show the 3rd parties what it's capable of so they can tune their games to the specific hardware and make each version just a little different and not just a straight port from another console.

The real winner of the console war this generation will not be as easy to define as last was.  This the online aspect will play a much larger role then it did last.  The 1st party games are always important and will be even more so this time.  The 3rd party exclusives will be the part that is pretty equal for the most part this time.  But overall, we'll all win as gamers.

Competition is good for us.  We'll be the big winners this generation.  Hopefully we enjoy the same type of gaming that existed during the NES/Genesis days where the amount of above average gamers was the norm not the rareity it is now.

For show, I am pretty heated by the thought of them (Microsoft) being able to release GTA on their console as well, but come on, where the heck did you hear that rumor of FFXIII being released for it (it would be kinda good cuz I own a 360), but I've always loved Sony over any other company, if you're telling the truth, Sony is done for with MGS (The greatest espionage/action game) and FF (Greatest RPG and storyline game ever) if they are multi-platform. I'm sad to say, but Sony might lose to NINTENDO!!!!!! :cry:

Ah man, is that rumor in the Rumor Mill (section) of this months issue of GI (the one with the GTA IV Cover), cuz I have it I jsut have'nt read the rumor section, I really really hope that FFXIII stays for PS3 otherwise sony lost everthing good game wise. I'm not saying Nintendo does'nt deserve to win (especailly with their unique console) its just that I've always rooted for Sony, always been a fan of them.

Yeah, I see what you mean, I read it in GI, hopefully not, anyway I really can't see FF becoming a multi-platform game, especially for the Xbox 360 (although the online version of a FF was released for it), it just seems like ones of those games that will never change consoles. I mean its like, you'll never see Halo 3 on a shelve with a ps3 logo at the top of the box.
