[QUOTE="firebolt53"] Eastern devs have RPGs down to a tee, hell they invented the genreheretrixEastern developers did not create the RPG genre. There were RPGs well before Japan got into the industry.
Sorry it was more of a general comment, considering it was the japanese which created the games which we quintessencially class as RPGs
I have never actually played an RPG from Japan that I've liked. They always have that over the top, flashy, big haired and eyed rubbish that I have most about Japanese gaming.
The west always makes the best and most realistic RPG games like Borderlands, Fallout, Mass Effect and Elder Scrolls.
But a friend of mine loves the Final Fantasy games and I hate them; maybe it's just personal preference.

I agree with this one. Especially the description of the Japanese RPGs lol. I don't have a fascination with Japan like so many people seem to have. Anime, Final Fantasy and all that just does not interest me.
Looks like I am the only one who thinks this way... >_>

No your not. !麿 恋仲 日本. I play games from both east and west and I hate the "best" destinction when these days variation is everywhere. Play Yakuza III and tell me you think that it's like a regular JRPG. It's an open world non turn based game nothing like FF or even Star Ocean that too is not turn based.

I got Yakuza 3 for the PS3 and so far I don't like it. I don't know why but it just doesn't feel right to me the way he moves and the whole layout of the game. Although the fighting parts are great fun and I really did enjoy beating up the one who looks like Desmond from Assassins Creed games I thought it would be more like Shenmue though.

Looks like I wasn't the only one who's nerves this guy grated on. He's been banned.
Does any one know what he did?
Ticked a lot of people off.
And good riddance.
I have no time, or respect for fanboys. And he was a PS3 fanboy. Ick.

It's odd you'd sware that some people think they owned microsoft or sony the way they carry on. It's the same with Mass Effect some people are horrified it's going to be on the PS3 and I have no idea why.

Because at the moment, the Mass Effect universe has a relatively small, close-knit, loyal fanbase. Microsoft published ME to PC and Xbox 360 - two consoles under the same hat.
And let's face it. PS3 fanboys give the rest of the world the shytes.
I'm all for boycotting the PS3 port.

So am I. Everything besides PS3 though. They had their chance, but they burned their primary audience when they made backgaming redundant and instead added a blue ray reader. Blue ray doesn't impress me, nor does the selection of PS3 games out now.Â

I'm going to frame this and hang it on my wall, N7. :P

You must be thinking of a different model of PS3 mine is 80% backwards compatable. But your right this year has only seen one exclusive game that was any good.

Can your PS3 play PSone discs?
Yes I play Final Fantasy 7 and 10 on it all the time, also MGS and Wing Commander III. I don't own very many PS1 games since a few of them were stolen but they all work :)
I have never understood why some people feel that they must love one and hate the other (western games and eastern games) that's borderline fanboyism if you ask me.

Are you serious?! Every store clerk I asked, informed me that the PS3 was incapable of backgaming.WTF.
Oh well, that's a good thing then. :)

Lol, "Fanboyism" sums up the author of this thread tenfold.Â

There is a list of 60 old PS1 games and I can't remember how many PS2. I brought an adaptor to transfer my saves over from the old PS2 and PS1 memory cards and the PS3 has a virtural memory card system so you never run out of save slots. So thoes store clerks should be shot for crimes against gaming :P
The X360 has the same backwards XB compatability (though don't bother with Morrowwind it's on the list but it didn't work for me). The old games come up in the Achevements as a green X and the saves work the same.
Niether one has prefect Backwards Compatable and seem the same in the BC regard.

Lol, "Fanboyism" sums up the author of this thread tenfold.Really? I did not know that. Just speaking for myself here but I think this whole "I must love one brand and hate every other brand" is stupid.
Something I like about JRPG's is a lot of them are turn-based...
I can go into the kitchen and get myself somethin' to eat while I think of my next move

I kinda wish at least one did, that would've made choosing a console easier :P
When the PS3 was first released, way back when, did it have compatability then?

I have the first one in my suburb so it must have. I didn't know back then ether. The UK Magazine said it didn't and the Aussie Mag said it did. It used to only be able to play the big titles like Final Fantasy or MGS. But they released four updates to get more games to have BC on the PS3 soon after Microsoft did the same adding 60 more xbox games to the BC catalogue and I brought Fable because of it.
I admit I brought the 360 because I couldn't wait to play back then "Exclusive games" like oblivion and the next gen titles. I might have sold it but series like Mass Effect (typical eh)(though I still have my 30 Shepards on the 360), Fable and Halo made me stay.
Still I had to buy the PS3 because I love Final Fantasy (FFXIII was the only non MMORPG that they are puting on the 360), MGS, R&C, and Heavy Rain.

Ahh okay. Fair enough then! Haha.
I must admit, I loved FFX. But turns out I liked Fable, Halo, Mass Effect, Fallout 3 and Oblivion a lot more. So the PS3 dipped out.
There were more xbox games than PS games on my "I want" list. :P
The topic is a potential "Welcome. Please troll here" all over it.
Never understood any sort of "which is better" whether it is for genres or for consoles. JRPG and WRPG have both got a share of amazing games and their share of awful games. PS3,360 and Wii have got their share of great games which I would want to play one day. Never understood the fanboyism anyway. We're gamers. We're loyal to games. Not to companies or developers. :P
While we're here I'll post some of my faves (five each) from east and west
East -- FFVIII,FFVI,Vagrant Story,Fire Emblem and Persona 3.
West -- Baldur's Gate II, Planescape Torment, Deus Ex and Diablo IIÂ
