Have to agree with this one.
Mass Effect definitely wouldn't be the same without the sex/romance scenes, it adds realism to the game and like you say; in the situations you are in why wouldn't they want to get any :P. However so many gamers think about it more than the actual game itself it seems. Maybe it's because you hardly ever see it in a game or maybe it's because the only thing they do in their bedroom is play Mass Effect.
I like the romance storylines and I wouldnt want them removed, however it is still a game and I don't use it as a substitute for a lack of social interaction :D

I love Final Fantasy for the Romance. I think FF12 was off because they cut it out.
The Net is 80% sex, 10% dating sites and the rest is games and selling crap, why would you need a game for sex?
I was going to post a pic about this in the Captions Competition but I thought the mod's might be rid of me :lol:Falcon084That would be unlikely, I don't think union forms are modded that heavily. Even then Gamespot has a fair tolerance for partial nudity, unless you where planning on posting porn ;)

No I wasn't. But I'd probably become a popular Comp.

80%? More like 99.2% lol
My 5 cents, I guess.
When it comes to ME2, it's the romance storyline which adds to experience, not the culmination of that romance. So I don't see a problem with bioware not showing partial nudity in ME2 like they did in ME1. I mean, if you want nudity - just type "nudity" in google and enjoy. So, as long as they give us a variety of options and keep a little open-minded about them, like they did in Dragon Age (Leliana is a good example), I won't really care what they show at the end. After all, it is more about role-play than sex, imho.
I really don't care that it was only partial and not completely nude, that's not why I play the game. I do like the character romance, the relationship between squad mates, and the characterization of each individual. It's why I love RPGs. Bioware made the headlines when the first ME came out because of their same sex romances and sex scenes. Since they had that extra publicity for the first ME I was expecting them to do something similar this time around. To be honest it didn't really occur to me that some people might be let down with the scenes in ME2 as they are now (except maybe for some that there no same sex romances).
LoL, the only disappointment I had with the sex scene in ME2 was that I didn't get to see Tali's face. :P
But I think why you mainly see so much sex chatter on the other forums is because people like drama and for a lot of people that often includes "adult content".

Actually there kinda is a same sex romance option.
If you play as Fem Shep you can get it on with Kelly, although it's considered a fling i.e. "not cheating" by the game.

I havn't tried many romance options yet as I am still trying to beat Insanity but Samara aparently is a same sex option (though the Asari are asexural).
Apparently if you're a paragon Shepard you can also get pretty close to Samara to an extend that she's close to kissing you but backs away at the last moment. If you play as Fem Shep you can get it on with Kelly, although it's considered a fling i.e. "not cheating" by the game.

You said nearly the same thing as me!
You are right about the second bit.
BTW Look at my blog and vote on the link there. Please! It has to do with Adult content in games. If your not an Aussie you can still vote and you need to know this: the Attorney General of SA is like Jack Tomson in the USA but worse!, this guy has power and has been stopping games from coming into my nation HELP US!
What did you think of ME2 having swearing. I hear it in games all the time but for some reason I was surprised to hear it in ME2. I am not asking this about freedom there free to put it in as they are to not put it in. I want to know if you thought it was necessary for ME to have it. I understand you swear when you stub your toe {pain} and I loved the funny bit from the generations movie, but the f word in ME?
I don't mind the swearing I think Bioware handled it very well in ME2. There wasn't a lot of it and when it was there it seemed appropriate as far as swearing ever is ;). Just like having character relationships it adds another sense of realism (albeit minor) to the game. In some instance someone calling out "Ooo SHoo!!" doesn't quite cut it ;).What did you think of ME2 having swearing. I was a bit surprised by the same-sex romance possibilities in Mass Effect. Not that it bothered me, it's just that, when being used to some degree of hypocrisy from certain people in the movie/gaming industry with regards to sex, I still was surprised by it. Although saying there's same-sex romance isn't entirely true, as the Asari are unisex. But, hey, they look all female to me... And I've never tried to get between Ashley's sheets, because it's not my purpose to bed everybody Shepard encounters. (but maybe, just maybe, I will try, as I just started a new ME1 game..)
Â
I've never played Mass Effect with a male Shepard, by the way. Dunno why. I was immediately charmed by the voice acting of Jennifer Hale, so I stuck with the she-Shepard. I've never tried to persue other romances (Alenko is too much of a noobish nerd to me) but since the thing with Liara was presented on a silver plate almost, hey, who am I to say "no"...
Â
But now, when playing mass effect 2 with my ME1-imported she-Shepard, I'm seriously annoyed that I no longer can get into females' pants... Especially after the renewed and warm encounter between Shepard and Liara on Illium... I even started ME2 anew with a male Shepard to see where it would get me and how much the conversation possibilities would alter, but I quit because I can't stand the sound and intonation of the male Shepard voice... that Mark Meer dude drives me nuts...
Â
To cut a long story not necessary shorter, I like the idea that there's possibilities for romance in games. I just don't like it when they go alter things because of some latent moral issues. I mean, it's okay to kill dozens of people and aliens, but you can't have people kissing or having sex? Seems there's nothing new under the sun, then, heh? Maybe it's time the gaming industry does with games as they sometimes do with mainstream movies, and that's to make a more spicey version for Europe, where people seem to be level-headed enough to not make a fuss about trivialities like sex. Besides, any-one who has let his/her eyes wander over the curvaciousness of her majesty princess Miranda, *must* have noticed something aking to a camel-toe in the lower abdominal region... personally, I found this much more explicit than a female Shepard having a smudged-lens go at Liara...

Lone warrior that is really wierd. I'd stay away from that guy. :|Falcon084I take it you mean the Tali picture? I got it from the Bioware forums, no idea who's little plaything it is ;) But it's quite disturbing indeed :P.

After the media stir about the "sex scenes" in ME1 I figured DA:O would have caused quite the buzz as well but I don't recall seeing a single news item about the issue. I thought that would be enough to have Bioware continue it's open minded view on same sex romances in future games but obviously it didn't.
I only read the first page so I don't know if this has already been said but...
You get sex scenes in films don't you? And it's a lot more graphic than ME's, some of them are full on porno. Why do people allow this then go nuts when Shepard kisses a blue woman in a video game.
Stupid censorship people.

Of course you are right, most complaints come from parents who let their underage children play the game then moan when it is too sexual, violent or sexually violent lol. If a 9 year old plays a 15 or whatever then the parents are to blame, not the developers. Â
Ive mentioned this in another thread, but since I was old enough to walk, I wanted to be an astronaut, a soldier and awesome with the ladies... Mass Effect allows all three... or as close as I'll ever get to all 3 haha. seriously though, Its the every day tasks and real human behaviors that find their way into games that make the fun for me in many cases. It adds character connection and depth and I enjoy crafting my own hero. Im completely all for gaming romances.
and yes... that picture of a Tali sex doll is highly creepy.
I know I commented already, but I am replaying Dragon Age, and the sexual freedom and open-mindedness there make ME2 look like it was made by a bunch of prutes.siarhei
Definately. On my first playthrough as a Male dwarf, I ended up bedding a Male elf by accident. I kept speaking to Zevran because he was hilarious to speak to, and I wanted to get the loyalty up to max to listen to as much conversation as possible, next thing I know he's saying all these really deep and dodgy innuendo's, and then i had a very awkward scene of a stubby dwarf and tall elf making out :|

Actually, the open minded Kelly is willing toget into a relationship with your female Sheppard.

Not in my game. She's okay for a diner and later a touch of exotic dancing, but that's it. Maybe I've missed something in my zeal to chop down some collectors, but testing some hovering matress capacitators wasn't an option thus far...

Yep. That's when she pulls an Asari on you and does some squirming on your coffee-table...
I had no idea this was in the game WTH?!Falcon084Haha yeah, it's sold on Omega I actually think it's the first thing I ever bought in the game. First vendor I come across sells the Xeno version of the Playboy :D :P.

"That isa pretty good idea," Muzyka chimed in, sounding as if this was the first he'd heard of it.
"I've mentioned it to the guys," Zeschuk told me and Muzyka. "And maybe we will."

Got this info off IGN in my own writing.
There are nine characters in the game that can be romanced.
Male Commander Shepard can Romance: Jack, Kelly Chambeers, Miranda, Morinth, Samara and Tali.
A female Commander Shepard can Romance: Garrus, Jacob, Kelly Chambers, Morinth, Samara, Thane and Jack, though it's not going to get as far as you'd probably like it to. So as you can see, the crossover, regardless of gender, rests with the two Asari and Shepard's cute personal assistant, Kelly Chambers.

The part about Femshep's romances is a bit misleading. Much to my own dismay D: !
Femshep can only romance Garrus, Thane, Jacob and Morinth.
Samara declines any advances, politely.
Jack "doesn't belong to the all girls club" (Totally lying, I know it.)
And as far as I know, Tali didn't heed my Femshep's sleazy advances... so I didn't push it.
Did anyone else play as Femshep and feel short changed?
You can romance any of the three male squadmates, Garrus, Jacob and Thane, but you don't see any action. Just Jacob's chiseled body... And awkward alien courtship.

One of my Femsheps stayed faithful to Liara, but still had a fling with Kelly. It's funny, when you go through Omega relay, they show Femshep looking at picture of Liara, but after the "suicide" mission she had all that naughty fun with Chambers :) I still wonder if it will have any effect in ME3...
My other Femshep apparently had a thing for Jacob (that's what happens when you "try to get everyone better" on your first playthrough)
Anyway, I actually feel like Femshep and Maleshep really have the same number of options. I mean, you could try romancing Samara as Maleshep, but nothing happens either. Romancing Morinth ends in you know what :) And romancing Tali kinda ends with a flop - you know, the whole face thing..

It always makes me smile that when sex is put into games, non-gamers get all squeamish about it. Hasn't the human race been doing this 'evil' deed for over 500,000 years now?
My First Mass Effect 2 play through took me 48 hours and the sex scene was only about 1 minute long anyway! (I played it on insane from the start that's way it took so long, check my achievements if you don't believe me!)
At the end of the day, you can see more adult themes on a soap opera and there on way before the watershed.

Ah yes Shepard can save the universe, talk drug addicts out of their ills inside 5mins, blow up mechanicle gods, get shot many times with out dieing, nuke planets, command starships and yet still he can only last 1min. Women the world over must have rolled their eyes :P
What do you think of my Samara theory?
