Its only just now got producers, but Im glad to see it happening at all. I would expect a summer 2013 release considering the lack of script, director, and the huge amount of special effects required...

AWESOME!!!
I wonder if it will be a completely new story following new characters or if it will be an adaptation of Shepard's story...
It will be interesting to see if the story is the same as the games or just inspired by it (Like the awful DooM film). Also which of the species of Alien they will choose to be in it.
Personally I think Seth Green should play the part of Joker in the film as well.

If it is about Shepard et al and Seth Green isn't in it... I'd seriously consider not seeing it. Well, for all of about two minutes then go see it anyway. :D
Honestly I dunno what to think. Yeah a film would be great. But taking ME into a medium that takes away the choices, which to me were one of the big draws to it, doesn't seem like a completely solid idea leaving portions of fans disappointed for various reasons (oh, you should see some of the moaning about who to cast as Shepard). Not unless they go down the route of prequel without Shepard... perhaps Protheans/last time the Reapers came-a-calling, but then we won't have Shepard, Joker etc which I would sorely miss.
I hope the guys at Bioware who are producers do actually get some input rather than being there to say to the fans "Hey, but we had these guys onboard, don't blame us!"
yer the first contact war would be a good event to base it off. but i think it might also be alright to base it off redemption or if it does come out around 2013 then ME3 would most likely be out so maybe some event after the trilogy is completeMr_Silent_DIt would be best to do something early from the universe. Otherwise, it may be necessary for viewers to play the game, severely limiting the audience.
Who needs a movie the story is so similar to Babylon 5 I could just wach that. Besides since when has there been a good game movie conversion. I just hope it does not ruin the saga.Falcon084
Agreed. With everything said above.
I'm sorry guys, but I secretly hope this all falls through.

The idea is abysmal unfortunately, the story is too vast and with many different plot loops noone would be happy if a certain story was followed as it would conflict with 'their' stories. A loosely based version may work but again I dont think that would be very successful.
The ideas of other conflicts etc sound pretty good but tbh I really couldnt care about the first contact war, we know what happened via the codex and books and not much really happened.
It had best be based on one of the books. They are all well-written tales, set in the universe we love. The games themselves are far too vast to tackle via one movie, and the format would remove a lot of the character interaction that made the game special.psn8214
The second book was good, but the first one was a bit dull. Maybe Kaylee Sanders and Paul Grayson will be the main stars of the movie. After all the film does have to fit into the Mass Effect Universe and basing it on the game wont.
I would personally like to see it be about the First Contact War. BTW, Falcon, how would it "ruin the saga"?wolverine4262
It could be brilliant! Shakespearean, Spielberg masterpiece. Or it could get the wrong director who gives Shep a talking dog for plastic toy marketing :P
Remember the Street Fighter movie or the horrible Mario Bros movie. Imagine those thoughts in your head every time you go play the classic.

Unfortunately it pointless to argue the point, a mass effect trilogy based film would suck big time, as much as i love the series i dont want it ruined by the greedy fat cat corporations. Leave it as a game and ill be happy.
Its only pointless to argue seeing as you have already made up your mind before any tangible info is release... Ill reserve judgement.Unfortunately it pointless to argue the point, a mass effect trilogy based film would suck big time, as much as i love the series i dont want it ruined by the greedy fat cat corporations. I always thought that Dominic Purcell could play Commander Shepard...in fact, when I saw the first trailers for the original Mass Effect, I thought he was who they based Shepard's appearance on...
I never really liked films that have been based on games before, as they have always been rubbish. Super Mario, Street Fighter, Resident Evil and the awful DooM (and I love the DooM games!!).
But I went to see Prince of Persia last night and it was really good. I've never played the game before but the film was well written and well-acted. It just shows that when the right people are behind it, a video game movie can work!
I just hope Mass Effect gets the same treatment.

Thing is prince of persia didnt actually follow the games, the story only related to it with most of it being created by the script writers.

There's still going to be a lot of fans who will be considerably upset with the canon decision. I mean, how often is the canon ANYTHING chosen :P
That's all I'm saying.
And again, I agree with firebolt53, this is just a stunt by the greedy corporations. They wouldn't do this for the fans.
Whatever the case, I will watch it regardless, with an open mind.

It can't be about Shepard because there are too many ways the story is told and chose your own adventure movies are useles you might as well make a game or two movies and that would be too costly. So a seperate story would be the best. We will just have to wait and see.
So on a discussion board on BioWare's Facebook page, someone posted saying that on IMDB Pro, the Mass Effect movie will be about the First Contact War
I don't know if he's right, but usually, IMDB has reliable information. Just thought I'd pass the rumor along.

Hmm... I hope so. Relay-314 would be cool
If it actually is about the First Contact War, I wonder if we'll see any familiar characters...majinstrings
Well Anderson will definitely be around, as will Hacket, Grissom, and maybe Udina. I wouldn't be surprised to see Saren starting out his Spectre career or something; he is the longest-serving turian Spectre. That is, if the movie will indeed be about the First Contact War.
I don't mean to sound like a party-pooper, but this is probably going to be a bad movie. (Hey, most game-to-movie adaptions are.)samanthademeste
Well, not necessarily (about it being a bad movie). Game Informer did an article discussing how video game movies have been terrible, as you mentioned, and they explained why. Basically, it came down to game developers getting all giddy when a movie studio or producer approached them and asked for the rights to make a movie. "Oh you want to make a movie out of our video game?!?! SWEET!!" And they signed the rights away. They weren't involved in the movie-making process, and liberties were taken with the story/character/setting/whatever, and things turned about bad. But now, things are changing.
EA and other video game companies have signed on with talent agencies that handle actors and help actors deal with producers, film studios, etc. Basically, video game companies will be their clients and they will be their agent. This means that developers and publishers will have a more active say in how a movie about their game is made.
Prince of Persia was the first video game movie that was made under this new industry meld, and I think it went pretty well. It's no Star Wars, but it's also no Bloodrayne.... All in all, I think that whatever EA, BioWare, and Legendary Pictures have in mind for the movie, I'm certain it will be spectacular.

That would be awesome! 8)Oh, no...I just thought of something that could go wrong...
What if they try to add a 'Jara Jar Binks' type of character into the Mass Effect movie? You know, a 'comical' character that's supposed to appeal to younger audiences? Ugh...I hope they don't do anything like that...screw the younger audiences...well, not literally; that's illegal...

Dang it. Guess I fell into the young-enough-to-enjoy-Jar Jar Binks category.
No doubt they will, otherwise its all doom and gloom. And lets face it, they'll be marketing the film to the teenage boy demographic, so it'll have sex appeal and irritating comical characters.
